Despite his uncertain contract status and potential high-profile signings on the horizon, Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior has reportedly made up his mind to stay at the Santiago Bernabéu through at least the end of next season.
Uncertainty surrounding the Brazilian's future has persisted ever since contract extension talks came to a halt last November. Vinicius Jr's reported wage demands of $34.6 million (€30 million) per season brought discussions to a standstill, with little meaningful progress made since negotiations began in January 2025.
His current contract expires on June 30, 2027, and the fast-approaching deadline has only intensified transfer rumors following two turbulent seasons at the Bernabéu, particularly in the wake of Los Blancos' unsuccessful pursuit of Julián Alvarez.
However, AS reports that Vinicius Jr will "definitely" be part of Real Madrid's squad next season, even with a new addition potentially joining the already stacked attack. The winger is also waiting for the club to "make a move," and if they fail to do so, he will walk away as a free agent next summer.
Vinicius Jr 'Desire' Remains the Same
Notwithstanding the contract impasse, Vinicius Jr's stance is unambiguous: the 25-year-old is determined to stay at Real Madrid. It has "always" been his wish to continue wearing the white jersey and cementing his legacy at the Bernabéu.
Many speculated that last season's dismal campaign might have nudged him toward the exit, particularly if an attractive offer materialized. The club's chase of a new Galáctico only added to that narrative, given that Vinicius Jr is already struggling to share the limelight—and the same areas of the pitch—with Kylian Mbappé.
Yet even the harshest jeers from the home faithful appeared insufficient to shake Vinicius Jr's commitment or club president Florentino Pérez's unwavering backing.
"Vini is one of the best players in the world and he is delighted to be a Madrid player," Pérez stated during his successful re-election campaign. "He was decisive in winning the last two European Cups and he has one year left on his contract. There is still time, but I tell you Vinicius wants to stay at Madrid and I want him to stay."

In a perfect scenario, Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr would have resolved his contract situation and potentially signed a new deal this summer, eliminating any lingering uncertainty heading into next season. But the World Cup takes precedence.
According to AS, contract talks will not resume until after the tournament wraps up. Vinicius Jr's complete attention is fixed on Brazil's quest for a record-breaking sixth World Cup crown.
However, there is no certainty that an agreement will be reached between the World Cup's conclusion and the start of next season. Given how sluggish negotiations have been over the past 17 months, it seems quite plausible that Vinicius Jr enters the 2026–27 campaign without a new deal signed.
The No. 7's uncertain future adds yet another major distraction to a squad already overwhelmed with drama and off-field turbulence—and that's before José Mourinho even steps back into the picture.
