Alexander Isak Isolated in Solo Training Sessions as Liverpool Circle Their Target

Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak is currently conducting individual training sessions at his former club Real Sociedad's training ground while he waits for clarity regarding his future, according to recent reports.

Isak has made it clear he wishes to depart Newcastle during this transfer window and has not joined the squad for their pre-season preparations. The Magpies maintain that a thigh problem is the reason for his absence from the tour.

The Swedish forward is eager to make the switch to Liverpool, and the Reds are reportedly willing to make him the costliest acquisition in Premier League history—with estimates suggesting a transfer fee approaching £150 million ($199.5 million)—however Newcastle remain steadfast in their refusal to part with Isak, preferring instead to secure him with an extended contract.

Spanish publication El Diario Vasco reported on Wednesday that Isak had begun solo training sessions at Sociedad, working alongside a personal fitness coach separately from the main squad as he continues his rehabilitation from injury.

Although some reports indicated Newcastle were unaware of Isak's location, Sky Sports News confirms the Magpies are fully informed about the 25-year-old's current activities.

Sociedad, where Isak featured in 132 matches from 2019 until his 2022 transfer to Newcastle, holds entitlement to 10% of any fee exceeding €70 million (£60.4 million, $80.3 million) from a future sale, plus 2% of the total transfer amount.

No official discussions have taken place between Newcastle and Liverpool, who had an earlier unofficial inquiry for Isak quickly dismissed and subsequently moved to acquire Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Reds stand ready to submit a record-shattering offer should Newcastle show any signs of being open to negotiations.

Although Newcastle are determined to retain Isak, they have been pursuing a potential deal for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Šeško, though Manchester United have now entered the competition for the striker's services.
