Alisson Eyes Historic Liverpool Record in Crucial Leeds Showdown

Liverpool's shot-stopper Alisson is eyeing Thursday's clash against Leeds United as the chance to secure the single clean sheet required to hit his 100th Premier League shutout.

The Merseyside club made Alisson the world's priciest keeper when they signed him from Roma during summer 2018 for £66.8 million ($89.9 million), though he held this record briefly before Chelsea spent £72 million on Kepa Arrizabalaga just weeks later.

Despite Kepa's difficulties living up to his price tag, Alisson has thrived at Anfield. Recognized as among the globe's elite goalkeepers throughout his Liverpool career, he currently stands at 99 clean sheets across 242 Premier League matches.

One additional shutout would bring him to the century mark, making him only the 18th goalkeeper to achieve this feat.

Liverpool has previously seen just one other keeper reach 100 Premier League clean sheets. Leading the way is Pepe Reina, who concluded his Anfield career with 136 shutouts in 297 appearances.

Throughout Liverpool's broader history, only four additional players have ever achieved 100 league clean sheets for the club.

Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar both accompany Reina in this exclusive group, though it was Irish keeper Elisha Scott who first reached this milestone during his second spell at the club from 1919–34.

While this would represent a significant achievement for Alisson, the Brazilian may prioritize securing three points against Leeds. Disappointing results from rival teams in the Premier League table have given Liverpool a chance to solidify their top-four position.

Arne Slot's squad enters the match in fourth place, trailing Aston Villa by seven points while holding a two-point advantage over both Chelsea and Manchester United, with one game in hand on all three clubs.
