Alisson's Injury Blow Exposed Ahead of Crucial Galatasaray Clash
Arne Slot anticipates that Liverpool keeper Alisson won't require an extended period away from action to overcome his recent injury concern.
The Brazil international sustained the problem during Liverpool's last practice session ahead of Tuesday's Champions League last-16 opening match versus Galatasaray and was unable to make the trip with the team, paving the way for Giorgi Mamardashvili to feature in Turkey.
"Regrettably he experienced discomfort near the conclusion of training," Slot revealed. "And it was ... medical staff assessed it and we collectively determined along with him that he wasn't fit enough to participate. So there was no point in making the journey."
When questioned about whether Alisson might be available for Sunday's clash with Tottenham Hotspur, a hopeful Slot responded: "There's certainly a possibility, yes, as we don't anticipate it being a serious issue."

Liverpool seemed to be planning for life beyond Alisson when they confirmed a $38.3 million (£29 million) transfer to acquire Mamardashvili from Valencia in August 2024. Following another campaign with the La Liga club, he completed his switch to Anfield last summer.
The Georgian shot-stopper, who impressed at Euro 2024, joined Liverpool amid considerable anticipation, and was soon afforded an opportunity to showcase his abilities when Alisson suffered injury in September 2025. Sadly, things didn't work out as hoped since Mamardashvili shipped 10 goals across just five Premier League matches, with cup performances proving equally challenging.
Overall, Mamardashvili has allowed 17 goals in 11 appearances across all tournaments for Liverpool and has, predictably, found himself back on the substitutes' bench whenever Alisson is fit.
Media speculation has indicated Mamardashvili has become discontented with his situation—January's FA Cup third round appearance marked his sole outing since November prior to this current chance—yet the 25-year-old remains committed to staying patient.
"It's never simple because there's only one position," Mamardashvili shared with club journalists. "If I'm not playing, I accept it. I must train intensively every day and that's all. My moment will definitely arrive. Perhaps not this season but my moment will come.
"My former goalkeeping mentor, José Manuel Ochotorena, during my time at Valencia, advised me to discover equilibrium between drive and patience, you understand. So continue working diligently and you never know when opportunity will present itself.
"I joined Liverpool nearly two years ago and had to wait through last season before arriving here. It was an extremely lengthy year for me and now I'm delighted to be at this club."
