Altay Bayindir Breaks Silence on Fierce Goalkeeper Battle with Senne Lammens at Man Utd
Altay Bayındır has disclosed that he maintains an excellent professional bond with Manchester United teammate Senne Lammens, even as both keepers vie for the number one position at the club.
Following André Onana's loan move to Trabzonspor, Bayındır and Lammens have emerged as United's primary goalkeeping choices, with Bayındır initially beginning the campaign as first choice. The Turkish shot-stopper committed several notable mistakes, though, and has subsequently been replaced by his Belgian colleague.
Lammens earned his United debut in the recent vital 2–0 victory against Sunderland and delivered a composed and reliable performance that should help him retain his place above Bayındır in the hierarchy.
Bayındır must now mount a challenging comeback to regain the starting role but considers the rivalry with United's summer signing as beneficial.
"That's how it should be, everyone must stay united, always," the 27-year-old shared with Manchester Evening News. "We have an excellent squad, a strong goalkeeping unit, and we constantly motivate each other during training.
"Naturally, we're competing for the jersey, but off the field, we maintain great rapport, just like we had with André. He's now at Trabzonspor and performing admirably."
United have endured a disappointing campaign start, collecting merely ten points from their first seven Premier League fixtures. They're absent from European competition this term and have already experienced an embarrassing loss to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
Discussing United's displays, Bayındır continued: "I believe football is a collective effort. Everyone must perform well, you understand? Everyone must stay concentrated. From my perspective, daily, following each match, we're enhancing our abilities and considering what additional steps we need to take.
"Following matches, we conduct reviews. We examine everything during analysis, identifying areas requiring improvement—all aspects. Once you establish consistency, you can progress with each game, as it's about gaining experience. You also acquire knowledge from every match and that's what matters most."
With limited fixtures for United compared to their traditional competitors this season, Bayındır will have minimal chances to reclaim the goalkeeper position from Lammens. Ruben Amorim will be seeking some stability between the goalposts finally.
