Real Madrid boss Álvaro Arbeloa refrained from singling out individuals, yet Trent Alexander-Arnold and Eduardo Camavinga were almost certainly on his mind when he lambasted his side's defensive display following their 2–1 defeat to Mallorca on Saturday.
The Spanish coach opened his post-match press conference by shouldering responsibility—as is his custom—for Los Blancos' lackluster showing before turning his attention to the sloppy errors he witnessed from his players in what amounted to a must-win fixture to keep their La Liga title hopes alive.
"The difficult part is making the players understand that, without giving 200%, we were never going to win," Arbeloa said. "You switch off for a second, you don't position yourself correctly, you lose your man, you don't follow him, and it ends up costing you a goal."
The veiled criticism could be directed at Camavinga, who allowed Mallorca midfielder Manu Morlanes to drive into the penalty area completely unchallenged to open the scoring. Arbeloa may equally have been pointing the finger at Alexander-Arnold, after the fullback lost his man Mateo Joseph in stoppage time, enabling the forward to tee up the decisive goal for the home side.
Both defensive lapses gifted Real Madrid goals, and with them, almost certainly any realistic hope of wresting the Spanish title away from Barcelona.
Arbeloa Gives Real Madrid's La Liga Title Verdict

Following the defeat to Mallorca, the deficit to Hansi Flick's side remains at four points. Should Barcelona claim a favorable result against Atlético Madrid on Saturday night, the Catalan club could extend their advantage at the top of the La Liga standings.
Arbeloa offered a candid take on his team's prospects of lifting the league trophy in May. "It's harder now than it was before kick-off. We have eight games remaining and, as I've told the squad, regardless of the league table, our next goal is to win every single one of them.
"To achieve that, we need to perform considerably better than we did today and raise our level significantly. Everything is more complicated now, but our target has to stay the same."
Atlético Madrid could do their city rivals a considerable favor by taking points off Barcelona, though Arbeloa was unwilling to entertain that line of thinking.
"That's not something I'm thinking about. My focus is on my own team and getting ready for Tuesday's game. I don't spend time on things like that."
Critical Errors Could Prompt Big Changes for Bayern Munich Clash

Falling to Mallorca would have been damaging enough on any given weekend, but suffering that loss just three days before facing Bayern Munich in the opening leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie leaves Real Madrid in a deeply troubling situation.
The one consolation for Arbeloa's squad, however, is that the starting eleven set to face the German heavyweights on Tuesday night will look markedly different from the one that disappointed at Son Moix.
Eduardo Camavinga is anticipated to be dropped in favor of the returning Federico Valverde, while Manuel Ángel is set to be replaced by fellow Real Madrid Castilla graduate Thiago Pitarch. Jude Bellingham could also be handed a starting berth, though his last two substitute appearances did little to strengthen his claim.
Vinicius Junior will naturally reclaim his place in attack, pushing Brahim Díaz to the substitutes' bench. Alexander-Arnold's position on the right side should remain intact, unless Arbeloa opts for drastic measures and turns to Dani Carvajal instead.
Real Madrid will be counting on the sweeping personnel changes to produce a positive outcome against Vincent Kompany's side, or they could find themselves staring down the prospect of an entirely trophyless campaign.
