Amorim Breaks Silence on Explosive Hojlund Exit Speculation: "Everything Will Be Clear"

Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that Rasmus Højlund's Manchester United destiny will only be "clear" after the transfer window closes on September 1.

Højlund, omitted from the squad for last weekend's Premier League season opener versus Arsenal, has appeared progressively more likely to depart Old Trafford in recent weeks.

The Danish striker initially wanted to remain, but Benjamin Šeško's acquisition seemed to trigger a change of heart. While a move to AC Milan appears off the table due to the Serie A club's reluctance to meet the transfer terms plus their signing of Victor Boniface, Napoli has resurfaced as a viable destination.

Amorim mentioned on Friday that Højlund handled his omission from the Arsenal match "like a professional player", with all possibilities seemingly remaining open.

When questioned by journalists about the striker's immediate prospects, the United manager replied: "Let's wait and see when the market closes and then everything will be clear."

Højlund netted a decent 16 goals during his debut season with Manchester United, having arrived from Atalanta just months after turning 20. However, his difficulties in 2024–25 were widely documented, concluding the Premier League season with merely four goals as United suffered their poorest campaign in the competition's history, and worst overall in 51 years.

Šeško's signing, coupled with the absence of European fixtures that would typically encourage more squad rotation, suggests a challenging season on the sidelines for Højlund should he remain at Old Trafford.

United began against Arsenal with summer acquisitions Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo operating in split No. 10 positions, supporting Mason Mount in a false nine role. Šeško came on as a substitute, having only begun training with the team days before, but may start against Fulham on Sunday.
