Amorim Drops Worrying Bombshell About Bruno Fernandes' Injury Status

Amorim Drops Worrying Bombshell About Bruno Fernandes' Injury Status

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has indicated that Bruno Fernandes will be sidelined for "a while" as he recovers from the injury sustained during the clash with Aston Villa.

The United skipper was unable to return for the second half of Sunday's 2-1 loss after picking up an injury in a collision with Villa's Amadou Onana—an incident that clearly caused him significant pain. Fernandes continued playing for approximately 10 minutes before Amorim decided to substitute him.

Fernandes subsequently took his spot on the substitutes' bench to witness Morgan Rogers seal a brace that delivered a disappointing result for the Red Devils, following which Amorim provided a vague assessment of the midfielder's condition.

"I believe it's soft tissue," Amorim informed Sky Sports following the match. "So, it's going to take a while. We'll see."

During his post-game media briefing, the United manager elaborated: "I believe it is a soft tissue [injury], but I'm uncertain at this point [regarding how long Fernandes will be out]. I expect he will be absent for several matches but, at present, that's all I can say.

"I prefer not to discuss these issues extensively, as they're beyond our control. He's typically someone who maintains good fitness and, when injured, generally recovers effectively."

Spirited Fernandes Responds to Aston Villa Supporter Jeers

Once Fernandes settled onto the bench, he became the target of jeers from several Aston Villa supporters positioned nearby.

The Portuguese midfielder refused to let his injury dampen his mood, though, as he rose to respond to those directing insults his way.

"You chant more about me than your own team," Fernandes remarked in video footage taken from behind the dugout. "You admire me.

"Don't get upset because I consistently find the net against you."

It could be some time before Fernandes is marking his next strike, with his unavailability presenting another challenge for Amorim as he struggles to field midfield options.

Casemiro served a suspension against Villa and Kobbie Mainoo was sidelined due to injury, resulting in substitute appearances for youth prospects Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey.
