Amorim Reveals Time Crunch Behind Benjamin Sesko's Potential Debut Decision

Ruben Amorim has revealed that Benjamin Šeško could feature in his Manchester United bow during Sunday's Premier League curtain-raiser versus Arsenal.

Šeško's £73.7 million ($100 million) transfer from RB Leipzig was only finalized last Saturday and, after completing his pre-season preparations with the German club, has yet to feature in even a practice match wearing United colors.

However, Amorim, who brings an entirely revamped attacking lineup into the 2025–26 season following the earlier summer additions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, holds no reservations about his new striker's immediate availability.

Amorim's answer to a reporter's inquiry about the likelihood of Šeško appearing against Arsenal was decisive.

"Absolutely. We haven't had much time, but he's prepared. Primarily, from a physical standpoint, he's ready. That represents a crucial element in our division," the United manager stated.

"Additionally, he's extremely intelligent. He inquires about every aspect, he's someone who is constantly analyzing. He dedicates entire afternoons here focusing on his conditioning, so he's prepared to feature, we'll determine whether he'll be in the starting eleven."

Should Šeško not receive the starting assignment from kick-off against the Gunners, Rasmus Højlund and the recovered Joshua Zirkzee represent Amorim's backup choices for the striker position.

Zirkzee, who netted a decisive goal against Fulham during his Premier League introduction twelve months ago, missed pre-season due to injury but has now returned to full fitness and is ready for team selection.

André Onana has also returned to availability, with defenders Lisandro Martínez and Noussair Mazraoui being the sole players sidelined for the season's opening fixture.

United aim to recover from a 2024–25 season that marked the club's poorest performance in 51 years. Though the squad struggled defensively, goal production presented the far greater challenge, managing just 1.16 per match in Premier League action throughout the campaign. Šeško, Cunha and Mbeumo, who were the leading scorers at their previous teams, should significantly address that deficiency.
