Andre Onana Reveals His Unwavering Determination to Secure Monaco Move From Manchester United

Although Monaco from Ligue 1 has reportedly shown transfer interest, numerous sources indicate that André Onana is "resolved" to stay with Manchester United.

The controversial shot-stopper experienced another season filled with ups and downs during the previous campaign. Surprisingly to many, Onana delivered solid numbers throughout the entire 2024–25 Premier League season, maintaining a league-standard save percentage of 69% while stopping more shots than FBref's expected goals model predicted given the caliber and volume of attempts he faced. Using this measurement, Onana actually surpassed the performance of Aston Villa's highly praised keeper Emiliano Martínez.

Similar to the reportedly unsettled Argentine, Onana has been strongly connected to a summer departure. Monaco has emerged as the most interested party, with The Guardian reporting that the Cameroon goalkeeper is being evaluated alongside Chelsea's Djordje Petrović.

However, the same article emphasizes that Onana is "committed" to remaining in Manchester. ESPN goes further by describing United's number one as "resolute" about not departing unless Ruben Amorim clearly indicates he will no longer be the primary choice in goal.

United has certainly been associated with numerous potential replacements. Villa's Martínez is among the goalkeepers believed to have been approached by the struggling Premier League club, while there was momentarily significant interest in former keeper David De Gea.

Despite his positive underlying statistics, Onana's reputation has clearly been affected by several notable mistakes. Following an especially weak showing during the Europa League quarterfinal first leg against Lyon, Amorim benched his regular goalkeeper for United's subsequent Premier League match.

"Sometimes you need to motivate the player to perform again, sometimes you need to allow him to step back briefly," Amorim stated at that time. "Tomorrow he will be training to get ready for [the second leg against Lyon] so I believed it was the right moment for André to step back. I think he understood because I provided an explanation. You don't have to appreciate it but you comprehend because I clarify everything. You must handle all aspects."
