Former Mexico national team head coach Javier Aguirre and Anthony Gordon are set to cross paths once more following the hilarious, profanity-laced exchange the two shared during the 2026 World Cup, with "El Vasco" now taking charge at Valencia.
England's triumph over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in a gripping, drama-packed round of 16 encounter is broadly regarded as the standout match of the 2026 World Cup. The game had everything, including a comedic moment when Aguirre yelled at Gordon with a blunt "F--- you!" before both men broke into laughter.
"With all the intensity and pressure surrounding the match, it was a moment of levity," Gordon said, recalling the incident that was captured on camera and immediately went viral across social media.
On Monday, Aguirre was officially introduced as Valencia's new head coach and held his opening press conference at the struggling La Liga club. During the event, he was questioned about his upcoming encounter with Gordon, and El Vasco revealed exactly what he intends to do when he faces the Barcelona winger once again.
"I'm going to do this," Aguirre said, placing a hand over his mouth to conceal what he was saying, drawing instant laughter from the room. "It was something trivial, a cheeky quip in the chaos of the World Cup.
"These things happen and that's all there is to it — I don't dwell on it too much. I greeted him warmly and there's a really lovely photo of the two of us. Actually, maybe I'd ask him to sign it, for my kids. Yes, it's a great picture, really great."
"By the way, the guy speaks excellent Spanish," Aguirre added.
Gordon recently described the match against Mexico at the Azteca as "by far the greatest experience I've ever had in my life."

Valencia will become the seventh La Liga club Aguirre has managed throughout his coaching career. As has been the pattern with most of his previous roles, he will be charged with steering the historic Spanish side away from relegation, as they currently sit 19th in the league table.
Aguirre is expected to be given ample time to turn Valencia's season around, and that patience will be essential for his reunion with Gordon to actually come to fruition.
Barcelona and Valencia have already met this season, with Gordon registering an assist as the Catalans romped to a commanding 5–0 victory.
Aguirre and Valencia are slated to visit Camp Nou on Jan. 31, 2027. That fixture represents the most probable occasion for El Vasco and Gordon to reunite, though there is a chance the two sides could meet sooner, depending on the 2026–27 Copa del Rey draw and both clubs' continued participation in the tournament.
Barça and Valencia faced each other in the 2024–25 Copa del Rey quarterfinals. Should they be drawn together at the same stage this season, that match would take place on Jan. 13.
Aguirre's character suggests he will make every effort to share another playful moment with Gordon whenever they meet, adding a fresh chapter to their unlikely bond. Whether it will be enough to go viral again is yet to be determined.
