Antoine Semenyo's Blockbuster Exit Confirmed as Transfer Deal Gets Sealed

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has hinted that Antoine Semenyo's dramatic late winner against Tottenham on Wednesday could mark his final appearance for the Cherries, as Manchester City are reportedly close to completing a deal for the talented winger.

City acted swiftly in the January transfer window to beat Liverpool and Manchester United to Semenyo's signature, but had to wait until after Bournemouth's thrilling 3-2 triumph over Spurs on Wednesday, where Semenyo netted a crucial 95th-minute winner.

The Athletic reports that Semenyo is now set for a medical examination with City, who have structured a deal that avoids triggering his £65 million ($87.6 million) release clause.

A 24-month payment structure has been arranged with City paying a guaranteed £62.5 million plus £1.5 million in add-ons, while a commitment of 10% from any future sale profits could potentially see Bournemouth receive more than the original release clause value.

"If this turns out to be his final contribution for Bournemouth, there couldn't be a better way for it to happen," teammate Marcus Tavernier commented to Sky Sports. "That's the kind of moment you see in films and nobody deserves it more than him."

Iraola hinted the goal would serve as Semenyo's farewell gesture, stating: "What he accomplished isn't easy to achieve. Most players would have handled things differently.

"He never made excuses. He was always prepared to deliver what we required. We were able to retain him until the final moment and it's fitting that he departs with these positive feelings. With the fans' appreciation, and everything else. I'm delighted for him."

Late Liverpool Hijack Claims Dismissed

Ever since City's serious interest emerged in late December, a move to the Etihad has consistently been viewed as the most probable destination, though rumors of a potential Liverpool intervention have persisted.

Following Wednesday's final whistle, Jamie Redknapp appeared on Sky Sports to fuel further speculation with claims of a last-minute Liverpool bid.

"Everyone assumes it's a done deal but I'm not convinced. I'm hearing Liverpool have made a move," Redknapp stated.

"I'm not claiming this is Sky Sports breaking news but I've been told tonight it might not be the certainty everyone's discussing, with him having a medical at Man City … there could still be a surprise twist."

However, no such twist is anticipated. City have arranged a medical for Semenyo, who is now traveling to Manchester to finalize what will rank among the January window's most expensive transfers.
