Antony Drops Bombshell: Star Winger Rejected Multiple European Powerhouses Before Man Utd Departure

Antony provided fascinating insights into his choice to reject Bayern Munich and other clubs while finalizing his much-anticipated transfer to Real Betis this summer.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim clearly indicated that Antony had no future at Old Trafford last season, approving his loan switch to Betis for the campaign's latter half. The Brazilian winger flourished in Seville, contributing nine goals and five assists while helping the team reach the Conference League final.
Betis supporters and teammates embraced the loan signing wholeheartedly, nicknaming him 'Antony from Triana,' treating him like a lifelong supporter from the local community.
With his return to Old Trafford unwanted, United insisted that Antony would depart permanently this summer. Betis emerged as clear frontrunners, though talks varied dramatically as the Spanish club remained resolute in avoiding excessive spending. Betis even publicly retracted their bid on Saturday.

Amid this uncertainty, Antony stated that "more than five teams called me" during an appearance on El Partidazo. Among those interested clubs was the German league winner.
"I had discussions with Bayern," Antony disclosed, "I'm unsure if it was €7 million [£6.1 million, $8.2 million], but I explained I had given Betis my commitment and it was 95% complete, so I would honor my promise. I'm confident in this choice because I'm extremely content here."
The Brazilian has shown visible emotion when reflecting on the difficult end to his United stint, which included over a month of separation while pushing for this transfer.
"My family is extremely pleased," the relieved 25-year-old shared, "being apart from them is incredibly difficult, and spending over 40 days alone in a hotel has been challenging. My wife was in Seville waiting, and I made it clear that Betis was my preferred destination."
"Today's events will stay with me forever," Antony reflected, "it was deeply moving, and I've never felt anything like it before."
