Álvaro Arbeloa described the whistling directed at Vinicius Jr during Real Madrid's loss to Bayern Munich as "natural" and "normal," dismissing the fan frustration as simply a reflection of the club's high expectations.
Vinicius Jr had a difficult night at the Bernabeu as the hosts suffered a 2–1 defeat to the German giants in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday.
The Brazilian had an early penalty shout waved away and registered seven attempts throughout the match, yet failed to leave a meaningful mark against Manuel Neuer and Bayern's backline. His most promising opportunity came when he exploited a Dayot Upamecano error and rounded Neuer in a one-on-one situation, only to roll the ball into the side netting.
To make matters worse, the 25-year-old — who has netted 17 goals this season — was booed by portions of the home support, a troublingly familiar sight at the Bernabéu. Vinicius, who has also faced racist abuse during games this season, has found it difficult to keep his composure in response to the jeers, visibly reacting with gestures and shouting "enough already!" during February's 2–0 victory over Rayo Vallecano.
What Did Arbeloa Saying About the Whistling?

When asked directly whether the crowd's reaction during the Bayern match was unjust, Arbeloa took a measured and diplomatic stance.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference before Friday evening's fixture against Girona, he said: "You already know my thoughts on Vinicius — what he represents to me as a coach, as a Madridista, and the level he's playing at. For me, it's a privilege, and I'd love to play every game at the Bernabéu.
"The whistles are part of this fanbase's high standards. I see it as normal, natural. Others might perceive a tense atmosphere, but what we feel is the backing of our supporters. We couldn't ask for anything more.
"If the team showed character and produced the chances it did, it was because of how the Bernabéu drove us forward. Hopefully we'll have the chance to play there again in the Champions League. All the players feel the same way."
What Is Happening With Vinicius Jr's Contract Renewal?

Amid the backlash from supporters, Vinicius Jr's future at the club continues to be a hot topic of conversation.
The winger's deal is set to run out in the summer of 2027, meaning he will be eligible to hold talks over a free transfer with interested clubs from next January.
Madrid have played down transfer speculation, and the player's existing contract features a steep €1 billion ($1.2 billion) release clause. Nevertheless, Saudi Arabian clubs had shown interest in recent months, fueled in part by a reported rift with former head coach Xabi Alonso.
Speaking before Tuesday's Champions League defeat, Vinicius Jr gave his strongest signal yet of wanting to extend his stay, saying: "I hope I can remain here for a long time."
He continued: "We're very relaxed because I have the president's confidence. When the time is right, we'll handle the renewal, because this is the club of my dreams, and we'll carry on together for many more years."
