Liverpool's recent struggles, with five losses in their past six Premier League fixtures, have prompted Arne Slot to dismiss any discussions about championship aspirations.

"Discussing the championship race is the furthest thing from my mind right now," Slot stated. "Our priority must be securing victories—one after another—before we can even consider such matters, and the truth is we currently sit in eighth position.

"Championship discussions are not our focus right now, something we managed last season but couldn't achieve in the two campaigns prior. However, we must get better, and that's clear."

Following an impressive performance against Real Madrid previously, Liverpool were thoroughly dominated by City, an observation echoed by the Reds' manager.

"In every facet of the game, they outperformed us during the opening half," Slot acknowledged.

"I want to stress that trailing 2-0 at the break accurately represented how the match unfolded. Naturally, everyone feels let down."

The loss to City marked Liverpool's fifth league defeat this season, already surpassing their total losses from their entire Premier League championship-winning season under Slot's first year as manager.

After 11 league matches, Liverpool have earned 18 points, which is 10 points less than their tally at the same stage last season when they held a five-point advantage at the summit.

While plenty of the season remains, significant improvements are required from Slot's Liverpool, otherwise their Premier League title hopes could be effectively finished before 2026 arrives.
