Arsenal Breaks Silence as Thomas Partey Faces Rape Charges

Arsenal has confirmed awareness of the criminal charges filed against their former midfielder Thomas Partey by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
Following a three-year investigation period, during which media outlets were prohibited from identifying Partey, the CPS has formally charged the player with five rape allegations and one sexual assault charge connected to events that occurred during 2021 and 2022.
Arsenal's choice to field Partey throughout the investigation period has drawn scrutiny. The Ghanaian player participated in 52 matches across various competitions in the previous season before his contract concluded. Media reports indicated that Arsenal had attempted to secure a contract extension with Partey but were unsuccessful in reaching agreement on personal terms.
When approached for comment regarding the charges, an Arsenal representative stated to BBC Sport: "The player's contract concluded on June 30. Given the active legal proceedings, the club cannot provide commentary on this matter."
Partey issued his response via his legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire from Hickman and Rose.
"Thomas Partey refutes all allegations made against him," the statement declared. "He has maintained complete cooperation with both police and CPS during their three-year investigation. He looks forward to the chance to vindicate himself.
"As legal proceedings are now underway, my client cannot make additional statements."
Partey is set to make his court appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5 to address the charges. Although no official trial date has been established, proceedings are anticipated to extend into 2026.
