After just a single season wearing the red of Arsenal, midfielder Christian Nørgaard has reportedly agreed in principle to make the switch to Everton.
Nørgaard, who arrived at the Emirates from Brentford last summer, found it difficult to force his way into Mikel Arteta's starting lineup, becoming lost in an already congested midfield. Rather than battling for playing time in 2026–27, the Danish international has chosen to seek a new challenge on Merseyside.
The Athletic reports that Everton have agreed a $9.4 million (£7 million) fee for Nørgaard. If the deal is officially confirmed, the midfielder will complete a medical next week before settling into the Hill Dickinson Stadium as his new base.
The 32-year-old, brought in as a replacement for the outgoing Idrissa Gueye, managed just 20 appearances for the Gunners last season. However, his time as Brentford's captain demonstrates he is more than capable of performing at Premier League level. He will face far less competition for a starting spot at Everton than he encountered at the Emirates.
What Nørgaard's Exit Means for Bruno Guimarães Pursuit
Arsenal have devoted much of this summer's transfer window to pursuing Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães. The Gunners have already had bids of £55 million ($73 million) and £70 million ($93.2 million) turned down by the Magpies, who are holding out for around £93 million ($124 million) for their prized midfielder.
Reports suggest the reigning Premier League champions are willing to go up to £80 million ($107.5 million) to land Guimarães in north London. The Brazilian is believed to be eager for the move, particularly following Eddie Howe's exit from St. James' Park.
There had been questions about investing such a large sum in a 28-year-old given Arteta's already extensive midfield options, but Nørgaard's imminent departure opens up room in the squad, potentially clearing the path for Guimarães to arrive.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are now poised to "accelerate and close" a deal for the Newcastle man at the earliest opportunity. Guimarães would slot in alongside Martin Ødegaard, Martín Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Eberechi Eze, and Ethan Nwaneri in Arteta's midfield options.

Nørgaard's departure for a modest fee may not generate much buzz compared to the blockbuster deals happening elsewhere in the Premier League this summer. Yet it could be exactly the catalyst Arsenal needs to finally make a major statement in the market.
Until now, the Gunners have welcomed only two new arrivals at the Emirates. Christos Tzolis joined from Club Brugge for £34 million ($45.4 million) as a replacement for Leandro Trossard, while goalkeeper Illan Meslier signed on a free transfer.
Piero Hincapié also finalized his permanent transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.
It always seemed inevitable that the English champions would eventually join Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur in dominating the transfer headlines. Guimarães's potential arrival could ignite what may prove to be an exciting August for Arteta, particularly if the midfielder can help persuade compatriot Vinícius Júnior to also head to north London.
Reports indicate the Real Madrid winger is receptive to joining Arsenal, though his immediate focus remains on securing a new deal with the 15-time European champions.
