Arsenal Devastated as Star Player's Season-Ending Injury Strikes at the Most Crushing Moment

Arsenal have confirmed that defender Ben White has sustained a season-ending knee ligament injury, suffered during the Gunners' 1–0 win over West Ham United at the weekend.

The England international managed just 28 minutes at the London Stadium on Sunday before being forced off the pitch with a problem that manager Mikel Arteta described as one that "doesn't look good." Following further medical assessments, White is once again facing an extended spell on the treatment table.

Arsenal described the injury as "significant" in an official club statement, confirming the 28-year-old will be absent for the rest of the season — including the club's final two Premier League fixtures against Burnley and Crystal Palace, as well as the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

This latest setback is part of an ongoing pattern of fitness problems for White over the past two campaigns. The fullback required knee surgery in 2024–25 and managed only 26 appearances. In 2025–26, he has featured just 30 times after repeatedly moving in and out of the medical room.

White's Absence Gives Arteta Another Injury Headache

Ben White

Losing White for the three most crucial matches of the season — and arguably the most significant in over two decades — is a serious setback for Arteta, who is pushing to guide his side to the Premier League title while also chasing the club's first-ever Champions League trophy.

White now joins Jurriën Timber, who is sidelined with a groin problem, leaving Arsenal without both of their first-choice right backs for their remaining three matches.

Arteta will likely be forced once more to deploy natural centre-back Cristhian Mosquera at right back to cover for the absences of both Timber and White. While the Spaniard is a workable option, he is far from an ideal solution.

Facing Burnley and Crystal Palace may not pose too great a challenge for Mosquera, but the prospect of potentially starting against PSG in Budapest raises serious concerns about the Gunners' right flank, particularly when it comes to dealing with the threat of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Arsenal supporters will be hoping Timber can recover in time to play a part in the Champions League final, though Arteta himself has acknowledged the Dutchman is still "not fit to play," let alone be named in the starting lineup.

How White's Injury Impacts His World Cup Hopes

Ben White

White received his first England call-up since the 2022 World Cup during the March international break, earning a place in Thomas Tuchel's squad ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 28-year-old netted his country's only goal against Uruguay in a 21-minute substitute appearance before being handed a start in the Three Lions' 1–0 loss to Japan.

He appeared to be on course for a place at this summer's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, but his injury now looks set to derail those ambitions. While Arsenal have not provided a specific recovery timeline, the club stated it is working to have the defender ready for the beginning of preseason.

Should White miss the tournament, Tuchel may have little option but to recall Alexander-Arnold — a player many feel deserves to be in the squad regardless, including former England captain Wayne Rooney.

"No disrespect to Ben White, I think he's a really good player, but for him to be in the squad and play ahead of Trent, I find it mind-boggling."
