Arsenal Eye Shock New Attacking Target as Morgan Rogers Faces Unexpected Competition—Report

Arsenal are reportedly exploring a potential move to sign Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, 24, according to recent reports.

Strengthening the attack is Arsenal's primary objective this summer following a successful campaign largely built on defensive solidity. Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers is understood to be the top target, but according to The Athletic, Arsenal are also pursuing a deal for Tzolis.

Any transfer, expected to cost approximately $46 million (£34 million), is unlikely to interfere with a potential move for a higher-profile name like Rogers, whose asking price is thought to be at least twice that of Tzolis.

BBC Sport reports that Arsenal's head of recruitment has already scouted Tzolis personally and, having been presented with the opportunity to negotiate a deal, sporting director Andrea Berta is weighing up the possibility of securing an early summer agreement.

Why Are Arsenal Chasing Tzolis?

Arsenal have been connected to a wide range of high-profile attackers. Alongside Rogers, the Gunners are said to be keen admirers of Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, while an approach for Juventus winger Kenan Yıldız is believed to have been rebuffed.

It would therefore be understandable for supporters to feel underwhelmed by Tzolis, who made 14 Premier League appearances for Norwich City without finding the net during the 2021–22 season. On the surface, that reaction might seem justified.

In practice, though, Tzolis is no longer the struggling youngster from his Carrow Road days, and has clearly begun to fulfil the potential Norwich had hoped would rescue their ill-fated campaign four years ago.

Over two seasons in the Belgian top flight, Tzolis has accumulated 43 goals and 45 assists across all competitions, including three goals and four assists in the Champions League. Those figures reflect elite-level productivity, though questions about the standard of the league remain valid—Belgium's top division is not the Premier League, yet is still widely regarded as a competitive environment.

A sharp instinct for both goals and assists has emerged during Tzolis's time in Belgium, a period in which he was previously recognised mainly for his blistering dribbling ability. Having now added a clinical end product to his game, it comes as little surprise that several top clubs are vying for his signature.

When asked about reported interest from Manchester United earlier this summer, Tzolis told Het Nieuwsblad: "United could certainly convince me. Such a massive club, with so much history. It would be very difficult to say no to that.

"[My next club] will need to be a Champions League side from England, Germany, Spain or Italy. Or, if PSG came calling, I'd probably go too, right? I'd say I love France. But only PSG represents a better option in France than Club Brugge.
