Arsenal Face Hull: Bold Predictions, Key Lineups, and What to Expect

Arsenal Face Hull: Bold Predictions, Key Lineups, and What to Expect

Arsenal chase a fifth consecutive Premier League win as they host Hull City at Emirates Stadium in their last fixture before the November international break.

Saturday's clash gives the Gunners a chance to cement their place at the summit, having overtaken title contenders Manchester City the previous weekend. They've swept aside northern opposition in recent weeks, defeating Leeds United, Everton and, most recently, Liverpool, and will look to continue that trend when the Tigers arrive in north London.

It's been a remarkable start to the campaign for Hull, who were largely dismissed before the season began. Their heavy summer investment has quickly borne fruit, with the impressive Sergej Jakirović steering them to a mid-table position. They've suffered only two defeats so far, having already claimed points against Manchester United and Chelsea.

This will mark the first encounter between these clubs in nearly ten years, though their most memorable clash came 12 years ago in the 2013–14 FA Cup final. Hull, astonishingly, raced into a two-goal lead within eight minutes at Wembley Stadium, yet Arsenal ultimately prevailed 3–2 after Aaron Ramsey's decisive goal in extra time.

A testament to Arsenal's growth is the clinical manner in which they now dispatch the division's lesser sides. Once prone to stumbling against lower-ranked opposition, the reigning Premier League champions now navigate such challenges with complete composure.

Regrettably for Hull, they appear destined to be Arsenal's next casualty of that ruthless efficiency.

The Gunners have already recorded six clean sheets from nine Premier League outings, and they head into the weekend having become the first side in documented history to prevent Liverpool from registering a single shot on target in a Premier League game at Anfield. Arteta's backline is virtually impenetrable, and Hull will need something extraordinary to score their first goal at the Emirates since 2014.

Going forward, Arsenal possess ample firepower—whether relying on their trusted set-piece routines, as demonstrated in their recent home win over Everton, or through their array of dynamic attackers.

• Head-to-head record: Arsenal have lost just one of their 18 meetings with Hull, a defeat that stretches back to 2008. They've claimed victory in 12 of the last 14 encounters, netting two or more goals in each of those wins.

• Arsenal's winning record: The Gunners suffered an embarrassing loss to Brighton & Hove Albion before the last international break, yet even that setback leaves them with 13 wins from their last 14 Premier League matches.

• Hull's attacking struggles: The Tigers have found the net 11 times this season—a modest but not disastrous return—however, they rank second-bottom in expected goals (9.1) and third-lowest for big chances created (15). Against Arsenal's formidable defense, simply getting on the scoresheet could be considered a success.

Prediction: Arsenal 2–0 Hull

Arsenal Predicted Lineup vs. Hull

Arsenal's predicted XI to play Hull.

Following Arsenal's midweek Champions League victory over Slavia Prague, Arteta confirmed that in-form center back Ezri Konsa was substituted in the second half due to "some issues." However, a more encouraging update at the Spaniard's press conference suggests he is fit to feature, allowing William Saliba additional time to work his way back to full fitness.

Bukayo Saka remains Arsenal's only other fitness concern, with the England international certain to sit out Hull's visit after sustaining a thigh injury last month. On the opposite flank, Max Dowman is unavailable through suspension following a straight red card for violent conduct in the Carabao Cup.

Arteta rotated his attacking options against Slavia Prague but is expected to restore Christos Tzolis, Kai Havertz and skipper Martin Ødegaard to the front four. Noni Madueke is set to keep his spot on the right wing.

Bruno Guimarães, Jurriën Timber and Riccardo Calafiori are also anticipated to return to the starting eleven.

Arsenal predicted lineup vs. Hull (4-2-3-1): Raya; Timber, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Guimarães, Rice; Madueke, Ødegaard, Tzolis; Havertz.

Jakirović is also without one squad member through suspension, with Matt Crooks serving a one-match ban after accumulating his fifth yellow card of the season during last weekend's draw with Ipswich Town.

Hull are dealing with five injury absentees, including summer signings Ilyas Ansah, Hidemasa Morita and Matt Targett, who are joined by Charlie Hughes and Eliot Matazo in the treatment room.

Jakirović may name an unchanged side from the Ipswich fixture, with much of the attacking burden falling on lone striker Oli McBurnie, who has contributed two goals and an assist across his last two appearances.

Hull predicted lineup vs. Arsenal (5-4-1): Tzolakis; Coyle, Ajayi, Egan, Mendy, Giles; Belloumi, Iroegbunam, Slater, Stroud; McBurnie.
