Arsenal Ignores Thierry Henry's Warning at Their Own Peril as Max Dowman Shatters Records

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has cautioned that Max Dowman requires "safeguarding" if the young sensation is to fulfill what seems to be exceptional talent and promise.

Dowman has become the Premier League's youngest ever scorer after netting in Arsenal's 2–0 victory against Everton merely 73 days following his 16th birthday. The former record belonging to Everton forward James Vaughan from 2005 had remained unbroken for 21 years.

"I experienced chills, I must admit," Henry stated during his guest spot on this week's Sky Sports Monday Night Football show.

"I rarely get chills while watching matches, but I felt them because I recall my debut goal, my initial moment. Even if you don't support Arsenal, in that specific instant I believe everyone could connect and felt joy for him, setting aside the Arsenal aspect."

Wayne Rooney previously held the Premier League's youngest scorer record, having netted a spectacular goal against Arsenal in 2002—this week, the former star disclosed that his weekly wages at that time were merely $100 since he was too young to sign a professional deal.

Rooney subsequently became one of English football's most celebrated players, claiming multiple titles, leading Manchester United and England, and surpassing long-standing scoring records for both teams.

Conversely, Vaughan, who emerged from the same Everton youth system, managed only 52 Premier League matches in a career hampered by injuries, concluding in League Two in 2021. His finest campaign was a 24-goal season for Bury in League One during 2016–17.

For Dowman to emulate Rooney's path and achieve the superstar status that has been evident for years, Henry urged supporters to remain patient and shield the youngster during this early phase of his journey.

"I witnessed Rooney's achievement and if anyone had predicted his eventual career success I might have been skeptical, but what's crucial is ensuring we can safeguard him throughout," Henry emphasized.

"We possess exceptional talent here, not only for Arsenal but for English football overall. Let's avoid becoming overly enthusiastic about this. Absolutely, I'm delighted he's with Arsenal, but we must also shield him and avoid pushing too hard, too soon regarding his potential accomplishments."
