Arsenal are reportedly preparing to table a formal $93.2 million (£70 million) offer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
The Gunners had a previous $73 million (£55 million) approach quickly turned down by the Magpies, who are understandably keen to hold onto their skipper at St James' Park, having already parted ways with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer.
Arsenal, however, have returned with a sweetened proposal. BBC Sport reports the reigning Premier League champions are readying the considerably larger bid to lure the Brazilian to north London, where he would enter an already stacked midfield unit.
Fabrizio Romano adds that Arsenal have already reached a personal terms agreement with Guimarães, meaning the only obstacle preventing the 28-year-old from donning red next season is Newcastle, who were previously believed to have zero interest in letting him go.
Newcastle's 'Response' Brings Another Roadblock
According to Romano, Newcastle are anticipated to turn down Arsenal's enhanced offer for Guimarães. Earlier reports suggest the club is holding firm for a figure in the region of $124 million (£93.1 million), roughly equivalent to what Tottenham Hotspur paid to sign Tonali.
The Gunners have already demonstrated a reluctance to splash out heavily this summer, withdrawing from the pursuit of Morgan Rogers and allowing Chelsea to splash a record $157 million (£117 million) on the former Aston Villa star. The English champions have also stepped back from primary target Julián Alvarez, whose asking price continues to climb at Atlético Madrid.
Nevertheless, Romano reports Arsenal remain confident they can secure a deal for Guimarães without overspending. Even if a third bid becomes necessary, there is still belief that Newcastle will eventually agree to a fee only marginally above $93.2 million (£70 million).
Guimarães has spent the past five seasons at Newcastle, racking up 195 appearances during that time. He played a key role in helping the club end a 70-year wait for domestic silverware in 2024–25, lifting the Carabao Cup after defeating Liverpool in the final.

A switch to Arsenal, however, would place Guimarães in an ideal position to compete for the Premier League title and the Champions League — opportunities that would be out of reach should he remain with the Magpies.
The 28-year-old would be joining the likes of Martin Ødegaard, Martín Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Eberechi Eze, Ethan Nwaneri and Christian Nørgaard in Mikel Arteta's congested midfield. That said, the dynamic Guimarães would undoubtedly slot straight into the Spaniard's first-choice XI, potentially nudging club captain Ødegaard a step closer to the exit.
