Arsenal Pulls Stunning U-Turn as Trossard Lands New Contract 'Adjustment'

Arsenal have reportedly secured Leandro Trossard with a fresh contract agreement following speculation about a potential departure during the current transfer window.

The 30-year-old multi-position attacker has reached terms on a contract modification, characterized as a substantial salary increase, according to The Athletic. However, the arrangement doesn't involve extending his current deal, which remains set to conclude in 2027. Sources indicate no progress regarding a possible summer exit from Arsenal.

Negotiations for an updated contract have been underway for an extended period while transfer rumors connected him to overseas clubs. The outcome provides Trossard with enhanced compensation following his January 2023 arrival at the Emirates from Brighton and Hove Albion. The Belgian international has since cemented his position as an important squad player, despite experiencing fluctuating playing time.

Both he and Gabriel Martinelli frequently compete for the left-wing starting position, with Noni Madueke's addition creating additional competition. Trossard, similar to his teammates, offers flexibility and has been utilized across various positions including striker, right wing, and midfield roles. His two-footed capability makes him an asset, although concerns have emerged about his capacity to secure a regular starting spot. Martinelli has also faced transfer speculation this summer.

Trossard has consistently reached double-digit goal tallies during his Arsenal tenure, netting 27 times while providing 20 assists across Premier League and Champions League matches in 115 total appearances.

Securing a fresh agreement with the club may provide insight into Arsenal's remaining transfer strategy for this window. The team has been connected to players like Rodrygo and Eberechi Eze, though both acquisitions appear doubtful currently, with Eze even rumored to be considering rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners have already acquired Martín Zubimendi, Viktor Gyökeres, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Nørgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Madueke.

The Belgian winger hasn't played since sustaining an injury during preseason action against Tottenham Hotspur. While included among the substitutes for Arsenal's season-opening win over Manchester United, he remained unused.
