Arsenal have reportedly intensified their discussions with Chelsea winger Noni Madueke's representatives as they pursue a new attacking wide player.
The North London club harbors ambitions of acquiring Real Madrid's Rodrygo, but considering the enormous financial outlay required and associated complexities, they view Madueke as a viable backup option. Sources indicate Chelsea would be willing to part ways with the player for an appropriate fee.
Throughout this period of speculation, Madueke has featured in four matches for Chelsea during the Club World Cup, with two of those being starting appearances. Fabrizio Romano reports that the England international remains concentrated on the ongoing tournament.
Meanwhile, discussions between Madueke's representatives and Arsenal are progressing, with the Gunners reportedly making "significant progress" in contract negotiations.
Following Madueke's most recent outing for Chelsea—coming on as a substitute in their win against Palmeiras—head coach Enzo Maresca addressed questions about the winger's future, providing a general response that any dissatisfied players have permission to depart.
"Noni has played a crucial role for us throughout this campaign," Maresca stated. "Once again today, he proved his worth.
"However, my stance to both the players and the club remains clear: I only want individuals who are content being part of our setup. Those who aren't satisfied are welcome to seek opportunities elsewhere. This applies to everyone in our squad, not specifically Noni. That said, Noni has delivered excellent performances this season and was outstanding this evening."
Importantly, Madueke has not reportedly indicated any wish to depart from Chelsea at this time.
Madueke has accumulated 45 appearances for Chelsea during the current campaign, impressing with a tally of 11 goals and five assists. Nevertheless, should he remain at Stamford Bridge, he will certainly encounter heightened competition for playing time due to Chelsea's summer recruitment activity.
Liam Delap has strengthened the forward options, while João Pedro has also committed his future to the club. Estêvão is set to join Chelsea following his farewell appearance for Palmeiras, and supporters are eagerly awaiting official confirmation of Jamie Gittens's imminent signing after he was spotted celebrating Friday's triumph on the field alongside his prospective teammates in club attire.
