Arsenal Slam Door on Real Madrid's Bold Pursuit of Star Defender William Saliba

Arsenal have reportedly made their stance crystal clear that William Saliba remains "unavailable for transfer" regardless of any offer, despite continued interest from Real Madrid in the defender.

Saliba competes with Virgil van Dijk for recognition as the Premier League's finest centre-back—it was arguably only the French defender's injury late in the campaign that prevented Arsenal from claiming the 2022–23 championship.

However, despite having just two years remaining on his current deal, the Gunners view Saliba as "off-limits" when it comes to potential transfers, as reported by AS.

The Spanish outlet highlights how Real Madrid hold the 24-year-old in high regard, though Arsenal remain "unwavering" despite approaches from the Spanish giants.

The North London club refuses to entertain any bids, with even a potential €100 million (£87.4 million, $117.5 million) offer unlikely to alter their stance. Arsenal face some risk given Saliba's deal runs until 2027, but negotiations are expected to commence shortly, with the club prepared to elevate him among their top earners through a fresh contract—he currently sits "well below" the five highest-paid stars: Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal have committed significant resources to developing Saliba, drawing criticism when they acquired the teenager for a substantial fee despite his limited experience of just 19 senior appearances for Saint-Étienne. Following loan spells at Nice and subsequently Marseille, he has vindicated all the early confidence shown by the Gunners.

Real Madrid face comparable resistance regarding Ibrahima Konaté. The defender has already reached the final 12 months of his Liverpool deal, having so far declined the renewal terms presented to him, though the Premier League titleholders have dismissed any possibility of a summer departure.

Nevertheless, Liverpool face considerably greater risk of losing Konaté on a free transfer compared to Arsenal's current situation with Saliba.
