Arsenal Star Kai Havertz Faces Lengthy Sideline Stint as Knee Injury Threatens Extended Absence

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz faces a potential extended absence due to a knee problem as the club considers various treatment approaches.
The German attacker is experiencing loose fragments in his knee along with cartilage damage, according to Bild on Thursday. Havertz is currently receiving conservative treatment including injections. Time appears to be of the essence since surgical intervention may become necessary if current methods prove unsuccessful, which would result in an even lengthier absence.
Havertz was sidelined for an extended period last campaign with a hamstring problem while Arsenal failed to bridge the gap to Liverpool, leading to their third straight second-place finish. The 26-year-old made his comeback before the season concluded in a restricted capacity and showed promise during preseason preparations. Following his substitute appearance at Old Trafford, he now faces the prospect of another injury layoff.
Arsenal possess the depth to cope with Havertz's unavailability following the summer acquisition of Viktor Gyökeres who was recruited to spearhead the attack, though it's crucial the Swedish striker maintains his fitness to avoid repeating last season's predicament. Mikel Merino was utilized as an emergency solution and while he delivered solid performances at times, he's not a sustainable long-term fix. Gabriel Jesus remains on the mend from his own knee problem, leaving Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Merino as backup options should Havertz require an operation.
The rumored acquisition of Eberechi Eze also provides Arsenal with additional attacking firepower, though there's no questioning Mikel Arteta's appreciation for Havertz. Arteta has utilized Havertz in various positions since his arrival in summer 2023 before he secured the main striker position. Havertz has featured in 60 Premier League matches for the north London club, netting 21 times while contributing 10 assists. He has added six more goal involvements across 18 appearances.
Havertz's setback prompted Arsenal to re-enter the transfer window following their busy summer recruitment drive. The Gunners swiftly completed negotiations after allegedly establishing foundations for Eze earlier in the transfer period. Upon Eze's confirmation, the England midfielder brings attacking prowess while allowing the previously mentioned players to provide striker cover until Havertz's comeback.
Based on current reports, a decisive moment may emerge within a fortnight as the surgical alternative becomes increasingly likely.
