Arsenal Star Set for Dramatic Homecoming as Club President Unveils Ambitious Transfer Coup

Palmeiras chief Leila Pereira has made her intentions crystal clear about Gabriel Jesus's potential homecoming, boldly declaring to the Arsenal forward that he will be "returning home."

Jesus inked a youth deal with Palmeiras in 2013 and earned his first-team promotion two years afterward. He featured in more than 60 Brazilian championship matches for the Verdão before Manchester City made their move in 2017. The forward transferred to the Citizens in a £27 million ($36 million) transaction and became a standout performer at the Etihad.

Jesus secured four championship trophies under Pep Guardiola's guidance, playing pivotal roles in several of those victories, though diminished playing time in his latter City years prompted his departure to new opportunities. He moved to Mikel Arteta's Arsenal in 2022, and speculation now suggests his journey may come full circle.

The 28-year-old has battled fitness issues since his arrival at the north London outfit, and is presently rehabilitating from a serious ACL injury suffered early this year. With Viktor Gyökeres expected to arrive this summer and Kai Havertz earning Arteta's favor, questions arise about Jesus's long-term prospects at Arsenal.

Gabriel Jesus

Taking advantage of the moment, Palmeiras chief Pereira delivered a direct message to the Brazilian striker when prompted to choose between Jesus and Cruzeiro's Gabriel Barbosa during a recent Record interview.

"Absolutely, Gabriel Jesus. And I'll add this: Soon you're returning home, Gabriel! Eventually you'll come back," Pereira declared, extending the invitation.

Jesus's contract with the Gunners runs until 2027, and his prospects will hinge on his condition upon recovering from his knee setback—expected early next year. No discussions have occurred between Palmeiras and Arsenal regarding a potential move, but the president has clearly indicated their former talent remains in their thoughts.

Arsenal are anticipated to consider bids for Jesus soon as they seek to reduce their forward lineup. Viktor Gyökeres is currently the primary option and will encounter additional challenge from Kai Havertz's approaching return, suggesting the battle for playing time may prove overwhelming for Jesus.
