Arsenal's Title Hopes Take Another Blow as Star Midfielder Martin Odegaard Suffers New Injury in West Ham Clash

Arsenal skipper Martin Ødegaard was substituted after just thirty minutes during Saturday's clash against West Ham United following another injury setback.

The Gunners' playmaker has been battling fitness issues throughout this campaign. A shoulder problem sustained in the season's second match was worsened several weeks later, resulting in a period away from action.

Following a brief substitute appearance against Newcastle United, Ødegaard delivered an impressive performance in Arsenal's midweek triumph over Olympiacos, receiving special commendation from boss Mikel Arteta for his contribution.

Right when he appeared ready to gain some consistency for the first time this campaign, Ødegaard found himself sidelined once more after sustaining a knee problem against West Ham.

The Norwegian star experienced a collision of knees with West Ham's Crysencio Summerville during the first half's middle stages. He attempted to continue despite the pain but eventually had to concede.

Arteta brought on summer acquisition Martín Zubimendi to replace Ødegaard, who partnered with opening scorer Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze in Arsenal's three-man midfield.

Focus now shifts to whether Ødegaard will join Norway's international camp. He received a call-up to Ståle Solbakken's recent squad but clearly must demonstrate his readiness before fixtures against Israel and New Zealand.

Arsenal will be hoping their leader gets a fortnight of recovery time before returning to league duties against Fulham on October 18.

Even if Ødegaard escapes serious injury, he might be rested for the Craven Cottage visit to keep him prepared for the Champions League encounter with Atlético Madrid three days afterward. Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion are also scheduled for Arteta's team before the month concludes.
