Arsene Wenger Fires Sharp Response at Jurgen Klopp's Club World Cup Attack

Arsène Wenger has dismissed Jürgen Klopp's assertion that the restructured FIFA Club World Cup represents the "most terrible concept imaginable," maintaining that football clubs are eager to participate in the redesigned competition.
The former Liverpool boss Klopp has been vocal in his criticism of the expanded 32-team, month-long Club World Cup format, arguing it adds unnecessary strain to an already overcrowded football schedule. The tournament features 63 total matches and takes place in the United States, wrapping up on Sunday, July 13.
Nevertheless, former Arsenal chief Wenger, currently serving as FIFA's head of global football development, has countered Klopp's firm stance.
"I'll provide a rather mundane response to a fascinating inquiry. Everyone has the right to their perspective, and I completely disagree with Jürgen Klopp's viewpoint," stated the renowned French tactician.
"I believe a Club World Cup serves an important purpose. If you surveyed all the participating clubs, 100% would express their desire to compete again. This represents the clearest indication of how clubs view the Club World Cup.

"The crucial question remains whether supporters appreciate it. We anticipated lower attendance figures, but actual numbers exceeded expectations significantly. The evidence speaks for itself."
Despite Wenger's claims about strong attendance, several matches have featured visibly sparse crowds—particularly during group stage encounters. Organizers have reduced ticket prices for certain games due to insufficient demand.
The revamped Club World Cup differs from its predecessor by occurring every four years rather than annually. The subsequent tournament is scheduled for 2029, though the hosting nation remains undetermined.
Chelsea will conclude this year's competition when they face European titleholders Paris Saint-Germain in the championship match this weekend.
