Arteta Breaks Silence on Saka's Fitness After Latest Injury Concern Rocks Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed that Bukayo Saka's early substitution during Wednesday's match against Port Vale wasn't due to any new injury worries.

Saka's season start has been hampered by a hamstring problem, making Wednesday's 2–0 win only his third starting appearance in all competitions. The winger played approximately 60 minutes but caused concern among Arsenal supporters when a heavy challenge left him hurt on the turf and hobbling shortly before being taken off.

Given that Noni Madueke is expected to be out for roughly two months with his injury, any additional setback for Saka would represent a significant setback for Arsenal. Fortunately, Arteta remains optimistic this isn't the situation.

"Yes, that was always our intention," Arteta explained regarding Saka's substitution at the hour mark. "We had set 60 minutes as his maximum playing time; we have numerous fixtures ahead of us.

"He's recovering from a significant injury, so we must carefully monitor his workload."

When asked specifically about Saka's availability for Sunday's away fixture against Newcastle United, Arteta confirmed: "He'll be available for the weekend, absolutely."

Fitness problems are already creating challenges for Arsenal this campaign. Kai Havertz, who was sidelined for an extended period last season due to fitness concerns, suffered a knee injury just days into this season and remains out for "months," while Saka's comeback has overlapped with Madueke joining the injured list.

Team captain Martin Ødegaard is also dealing with a shoulder problem, though Arteta believes the Norwegian midfielder will return to action within the next few weeks.
