Arteta Hits Historic Arsenal Milestone in West Ham Clash - Manager Calls Achievement 'Privileged'
Mikel Arteta expressed his privilege at reaching the milestone of managing his 300th match with Arsenal in their fixture against West Ham United on Saturday.
The North London club took a significant gamble when they named Arteta as manager in December 2019, considering his lack of top-level managerial experience and his brief three-year stint as Pep Guardiola's assistant coach at Manchester City.
Half a decade on, Arteta has transformed Arsenal completely, establishing them as consistent Premier League title contenders and earning recognition as one of Europe's elite teams. Remarkably, throughout his 299 matches at the helm, his success rate (58%) surpasses that of club icons including Arsène Wenger, Herbert Chapman and George Graham.
"I consider myself extremely fortunate, I truly love what I do alongside the people I work with, and we understand that in this profession, success depends on winning numerous matches to maintain your position," Arteta commented.
"Additionally, while pursuing this goal, we must ensure we appreciate our vocation because it offers, in my view, some of life's most wonderful experiences, and we strive to achieve both simultaneously."
He added: "Despite that success rate, we haven't secured major silverware, which demonstrates the standard required.
"That's why we must build upon previous achievements, but the current level isn't sufficient - it needs to be significantly higher. It's considerably more challenging, but that's our focus moving forward."
