Arteta Reveals Arsenal Still Pursuing Gyokeres Despite Missing Transfer Window Deadline

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has declined to provide details about the club's continued interest in Viktor Gyökeres, though he acknowledged expecting his team to welcome another fresh signing "in the near future".

Reports surfaced earlier this month suggesting Arsenal had secured a preliminary agreement with Sporting CP for Gyökeres' move to the Emirates Stadium, however negotiations have remained stalled regarding the final transfer fee arrangements.

Arteta had hoped to finalize the Gyökeres acquisition before Arsenal's pre-season Singapore tour commenced, but the Gunners arrived on Sunday with the Swedish striker absent from their traveling party.

When pressed for details during Monday's media briefing, Arteta responded: "I cannot provide commentary on any individual who isn't currently part of our squad. When we have definitive news to share regarding any player acquisition, we will communicate that."

Despite missing his preferred transfer timeline, Arteta expressed optimism that the club would secure additional reinforcements while the current squad remains in Singapore. Supporters continue waiting for official confirmation of Cristhian Mosquera's arrival following what appeared to be a leaked debut interview, though Gyökeres remains the primary focus of fan speculation.

Several Portuguese media outlets have suggested potential competition from Manchester United, however sources indicate Gyökeres maintains unwavering commitment to joining Arsenal this summer.

"The transfer window remains lengthy and we continue our search, numerically speaking, we lack depth and must enhance both squad quality and options," Arteta elaborated. "We maintain active market monitoring. Until developments occur, our attention stays with current players and I'm extremely satisfied with recent performances over the past 10-15 days.

"Optimally you desire [new signings] available from pre-season's opening day. I believe our progress has been exceptional, I'm thoroughly pleased with the club's backing of necessary team enhancements and requirements. I think Andrea [Berta, sporting director] and his department have performed brilliantly while advancing all matters. Considerable time remains in the window but we maintain optimism for squad improvement and will persist in those efforts.

"I'm extremely satisfied, that's my only statement. Multiple factors and considerations must align to successfully complete a player acquisition. I remain highly optimistic we'll achieve this very soon."
