Arteta Reveals Crucial Saka Fitness News Ahead of High-Stakes Chelsea Showdown
Mikel Arteta has revealed that Arsenal's Bukayo Saka picked up "a minor issue" during pre-match preparations that prevented him from featuring in Saturday's victory against Leeds United.
Despite being named in the initial starting eleven, Saka was observed limping during warm-up exercises. Noni Madueke stepped in as his replacement and contributed significantly to Arsenal's opening two strikes in their four-goal triumph at Elland Road.
Saka's absence, coming just days ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg versus Chelsea, represented the sole disappointment for Arsenal during an otherwise successful outing.
"He didn't feel ready to begin the match, so we quickly decided to make that substitution and introduce Noni," Arteta explained regarding Saka's situation.

Arsenal's Alternatives for Bukayo Saka Against Chelsea

Securing backup for Saka ranked among Arsenal's primary objectives throughout the summer transfer period. Arteta has repeatedly discussed his strategy to construct a roster featuring quality players in each position, with reliable cover for Saka being essential for precisely these circumstances.
Arsenal finalized a deal potentially reaching £52 million ($71.4 million) to acquire Madueke from Chelsea, and he quickly received opportunities to demonstrate his capabilities when Saka sustained an earlier injury this campaign. While his statistical output in goals and assists may be modest, Madueke has clearly impressed with his performances this season.
Arteta has expressed satisfaction with Madueke's approach to serving as Saka's understudy and offered additional commendation for the former Chelsea player following Saturday's match.
"His preparation methods, his patience while awaiting chances, I believe were rewarded today as he truly made a difference for the team," Arteta added.
"We discussed beforehand that it would be an extended contest, requiring us to adapt through various phases of play, and we would need everyone to fulfill their designated responsibilities on the day, and I think the squad executed that remarkably well."
Madueke seems to be the leading contender to feature on the right flank against his previous club on Tuesday, though Arsenal's roster contains several viable alternatives for that position.
Gabriel Martinelli provided an assist after coming on as a substitute versus Leeds and might earn a starting role on the right, while both Kai Havertz and the impressive Gabriel Jesus possess considerable experience in wide positions.
The sole player unavailable to start in Saka's place is 16-year-old Max Dowman, who featured as a right winger earlier this term before suffering an ankle problem.
