Aston Villa Slaps Hefty Price Tag on Star Coveted by Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, and PSG

Aston Villa Slaps Hefty Price Tag on Star Coveted by Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, and PSG

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all reportedly eyeing Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, with a transfer battle expected to unfold in the months ahead.

Rogers has established himself as one of the Premier League's most creative forces since arriving at Unai Emery's Villa side just over two years ago. The 23-year-old has broken into the England national team, contributing 51 goals and assists for Villa—a significant factor in the club's recent achievements.

Having come through West Bromwich Albion's youth setup and spent time at Manchester City's academy between the ages of 17 and 20, Rogers is identified by The Times as a target for Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. Sky Sports echoes those three Premier League clubs while also including Paris Saint-Germain in the mix.

A potential sale, though reluctant, could be on the cards after Villa recorded considerable financial losses over recent seasons. The club's sole profitable year among the last three completed came from 'selling' their women's team to their own parent company—a transaction UEFA notably refused to recognize.

However, Rogers is tied to Villa until 2031 following a contract extension signed in November. That deal, combined with the club's push to reach the Champions League for the second time in three years, places Villa in a strong negotiating position over any potential transfer fee.

Rogers to Rank Among Most Expensive English Players

Aston Villa are said to value Rogers at approximately $107.7 million (£80 million).

That figure would place him joint-fifth among the most expensive English players in history, level with Harry Maguire and behind Jack Grealish, Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. The valuation is also partly driven by a sell-on clause included in Villa's original deal with Rogers's previous club.

EFL Championship side Middlesbrough are entitled to 20% of any profit Villa make on Rogers, who was purchased for up to $18.9 million on Feb. 1, 2024 after just a brief spell at the Teesside club.

Villa will likely be hoping a standout World Cup performance from Rogers over the summer pushes his value even higher, making it probable they will hold off on any transfer discussions until after the tournament concludes.

Man Utd's Potential Transfer Advantage Over Rivals

Both Arsenal and Chelsea registered interest in the versatile Rogers last summer, before he committed his future to Aston Villa by signing that new long-term deal.

Arsenal are seeking a left winger and have also been connected with Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon and PSG's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Rogers, who operates primarily as a No. 10, aligns with Chelsea's transfer strategy of recruiting young players with room to grow. Their renewed pursuit is particularly interesting given ongoing speculation around Cole Palmer, who has been loosely linked with Manchester United—the club he supported as a child—amid reported homesickness for the northwest of England.

United are short of a left-sided forward option—fullback Patrick Dorgu filled that role in Michael Carrick's opening two matches before picking up an injury. Rogers played in that position when the two sides met in December, scoring twice as Aston Villa claimed a 2–1 victory over the Red Devils.

Rogers shares a prior connection with Carrick, who managed him during his half-season at Middlesbrough. The player has spoken warmly about the 44-year-old, who is hoping to be confirmed as United's permanent manager ahead of next season. Comments from Rogers published in January 2026 highlighted a close bond with Carrick at Middlesbrough, with an ongoing "line of communication" maintained even after their working relationship ended.

Carrick admitted disappointment at Rogers's swift departure, but said when United faced Villa earlier this season: "You could always see what he was possibly going to be capable of and the potential in terms of his attributes, the way he carries the ball, he can play off his left foot, play off his right foot, create and score goals and really good athletically."
