Atletico Madrid Reaches Final Verdict on Andy Robertson Transfer Pursuit

Atlético Madrid have reportedly "abandoned" their pursuit of Liverpool's left-back Andy Robertson, shifting their focus to an alternative target, according to recent reports.

The Madrid-based club was initially connected with Robertson during mid-June. Although the player has consistently expressed his commitment to competing at the highest level, various sources suggested that the Scottish defender was "eager to depart" from Liverpool.

Robertson's standing within the team has suffered considerably since Milos Kerkez's signing was confirmed. Following extensive rumors, the 21-year-old defender has completed his transfer from Bournemouth to what he called the "greatest club in England."

However, those alleged ambitions of joining La Liga have been undermined by ESPN. The publication states that Atlético are nearing completion of a deal for Atalanta's fullback Matteo Ruggeri, having reduced their pursuit of Robertson.

While Liverpool's 31-year-old accomplished veteran is entering the twilight phase of his successful career, Ruggeri represents the opposite at just 22 years old. The Atalanta youth product has been a consistent performer for the strategic Bergamo side, accumulating over 100 matches for the club despite his young age.

Robertson's future prospects remain uncertain. ESPN suggests that the Scottish player had reached an agreement with Atlético, highlighting his readiness to exit Liverpool given the appropriate opportunity.

"I've experienced eight wonderful years at Liverpool regarding trophy victories and maintaining my position as a key player, which fills me with immense pride," Robertson reflected before the Atlético connections emerged.

"Age is catching up with me, and I cannot alter that reality, but I remain convinced that I have much more to contribute, and that's where I direct my attention."
