As September begins, the curtain falls on the opening calendar month of the 2026–27 Premier League season.
With two matchdays already completed, the shortlists for August's Player and Manager of the Month honors have been revealed, with a combination of fan voting and expert panel deliberation set to determine the first award winners of the new campaign.
Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White claimed the player accolade when it was last presented in April, while Pep Guardiola collected the managerial honor in what proved to be his final such recognition as Manchester City head coach.
August 2026 Premier League Player of the Month Nominees
Arsenal are renowned for their defensive solidity, and while Riccardo Calafiori certainly played his part in the Gunners keeping two clean sheets in August, his most notable contributions came at the attacking end. The marauding left back, who found the net in the Community Shield triumph against Manchester City, has registered two assists in as many league outings this term.
Also boasting two assists in August, Man City creator Rayan Cherki has swiftly cemented himself as a central figure in the Enzo Maresca era. Complementing his impressive start are two additional goals, all delivered in a mere 109 minutes of action.
Bruno Fernandes has been less prolific in the assist department this season—just one from two appearances—but his influence has been felt primarily in front of goal. The Manchester United skipper has netted three times, with all of those contributions coming in a commanding 5–2 win over Ipswich Town.
Chelsea pair Cole Palmer and João Pedro will both be eyeing a place among the frontrunners for this honor. Palmer has contributed two goals and an assist to date, though his Brazilian clubmate edges him out with two in each category following a blistering opening to life under Xabi Alonso.

Few new arrivals have made as immediate an impression as Brentford's Mamadou Sangaré. The ex-Lens midfielder has adapted to English football seamlessly and has already won over the supporters after two outstanding performances, including an assist in the 3–0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur.
Sangaré's arrival has somewhat overshadowed another notable newcomer. A club-record acquisition upon joining Hull City in August, goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis has firmly announced himself after posting two clean sheets despite being tested by 21 shots in a victory over Man Utd.
Rounding out the nominees, Newcastle United forward Yoane Wissa has shown signs of recapturing his best Brentford form with an encouraging start under new head coach Matthias Jaissle. Deployed in both an advanced midfield role and as an out-and-out striker, the DR Congo international has contributed a goal and an assist—each as impressive as the other.
August 2026 Premier League Manager of the Month Nominees
Four clubs have made flawless starts to the new campaign, and it is little surprise to find all of them represented among the Manager of the Month contenders.
Mikel Arteta, who claimed the 2025–26 Manager of the Season award, has Arsenal looking characteristically formidable at the back, restricting opponents to just a single shot on target so far in what has been an ideal beginning to the Gunners' title defense.
Across the capital, new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has also overseen back-to-back victories. Only Brighton & Hove Albion can match the Blues' tally of seven goals from their opening two fixtures, with Palmer and Pedro thriving alongside new recruit Morgan Rogers in the forward line.
Sergej Jakirović and Hull City were broadly tipped as relegation candidates heading into the season, yet the Tigers have looked remarkably assured so far. Back-to-back wins against Man Utd and Coventry City have been achieved without conceding a single goal.
Completing the shortlist is Enzo Maresca, who is bidding to retain the award at the Etihad Stadium. Both Bournemouth and Crystal Palace were dispatched by this reinvigorated Man City side, who wrapped up August sitting at the summit of the table.
