Ballon d'Or 2025: Meet the Elite Coaches Battling for Football's Most Prestigious Honor

Luis Enrique and Hansi Flick are set to compete for the Men's Team Coach of the Year honor at the 2025 Ballon d'Or awards ceremony. Sarina Wiegman stands as the frontrunner for the women's coaching accolade.

The contenders for the top coaching awards in both men's and women's football throughout the previous year have been announced, with these honors being presented alongside other prizes at the annual celebration in September at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

Enrique spearheads an impressive field for the men's recognition, having guided Paris Saint-Germain to their groundbreaking Champions League victory in May. PSG made history as the first French club in three decades to claim Europe's premier club trophy, achieving this feat as part of an unprecedented treble.

Flick also experienced remarkable achievements at Barcelona, securing the club's maiden domestic treble during his inaugural season—marking the first time the Catalans captured La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España in a single campaign.

Arne Slot earns his place on the five-man shortlist following his successful guidance of Liverpool to Premier League success in his first year, having replaced Anfield icon Jürgen Klopp the previous summer.

Similarly, Antonio Conte's inaugural campaign with Napoli delivered the Serie A championship for the club, clinching victory from Inter's grasp in the campaign's closing stages.

Enzo Maresca's immediate double trophy success at Chelsea has also secured his nomination. The Italian tactician, formerly under Pep Guardiola's tutelage, led the Blues to triumph in both the UEFA Conference League and the expanded FIFA  Club World Cup.

The Women's Team Coach of the Year category features an equally impressive lineup, though many consider Wiegman the clear favorite following her leadership of England to Euro 2025 triumph. The Lionesses overcame elimination threats on two occasions to reach their fifth consecutive major tournament final, ultimately defeating world champions Spain in a penalty shootout.

The Dutch coach faces challenge from Arsenal manager Renée Slegers, who guided the Gunners to Champions League success seven months after her initial interim appointment. Arsenal defied expectations by overcoming Barcelona in the final, maintaining their status as the sole English club to capture this prize.

Sonia Bompastor's perfect domestic treble campaign with Chelsea, claiming the WSL, FA Cup, and League Cup without defeat, positions her as another serious candidate.

Leading Brazil, Arthur Elias secured this year's Copa América during the summer months, marking their ninth continental championship from ten possible tournaments since the competition's 1991 inception.

Justine Madugu rounds out the nominees after capturing the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria last month, representing a historic tenth title for the nation.
