Ballon d'Or Champion Reveals How Jude Bellingham Faces Shocking Mistreatment

Ex-Ballon d'Or recipient Ruud Gullit has come to Jude Bellingham's aid, describing him as Real Madrid's "top performer" and suggesting he's being let down by his colleagues' lack of effort.

Real Madrid are experiencing a disappointing beginning to the Xabi Alonso tenure, with the Spanish manager already facing significant pressure due to recent performances. The team has suffered defeats in their previous two fixtures, both at home at the Santiago Bernabéu, and secured victories in only two of their past eight matches across all tournaments.

Poor domestic form has left them behind Barcelona in La Liga standings, while recording two losses from six Champions League fixtures places them in danger of missing out on the tournament's top eight positions and direct qualification to the round of 16.

No player has escaped criticism in the Spanish capital—though most has been directed at Alonso—and even midfield maestro Bellingham has faced scrutiny after questions arose about his demeanor following the midweek loss to Manchester City.

However, Gullit, who earned the world's top player honor in 1987, believes Bellingham's demeanor isn't Madrid's problem, instead directing blame toward the club's attacking triumvirate.

"[Kylian] Mbappé isn't contributing much without possession," Gullit commented on beIN Sports. "Vinicius Junior contributes little, Rodrygo contributes little, and many others must work twice as hard. Bellingham suffers because of this.

"He cannot perform the same way he did when [Toni] Kroos was present. With Kroos there, they maintained equilibrium." Gullit then emphasized: "He's their finest player!"

The Dutch legend's endorsement of Bellingham continued as he argued that Thomas Tuchel would be making an "incorrect choice" by excluding the Madrid star from upcoming England selections.

Bellingham addressed reporters following the Champions League loss to Man City, providing assurance about his backing for Alonso amid recent criticism while acknowledging supporters' disappointment.

"Absolutely. The coach has been excellent, I maintain a strong bond with him," the 22-year-old stated regarding Alonso. "We'll need to accept some criticism, but we must continue battling and moving ahead.

"I comprehend the supporters' disappointment. We're privileged to represent the world's greatest club, they've witnessed the finest players in history, claimed the most prestigious titles, they invest considerable money to attend and support the team. If they wish to voice their opinions in that manner, that's their prerogative."
