Barcelona Director Drops Bombshell: Major Breakthrough Expected on Lewandowski and De Jong Contract Talks

Barcelona's sporting director Deco has expressed optimism that midfielder Frenkie de Jong will extend his contract in the near future, though any decision regarding veteran forward Robert Lewandowski will be postponed until later this season.

Both athletes are currently in their contract's final year, and while this situation is typical for players of Lewandowski's age, there have been specific worries about discussions with De Jong, which have been ongoing for multiple months.

Complications with De Jong's agents have contributed to the postponements, and the Netherlands international is now only months away from being eligible to negotiate with other clubs for a free move, though Deco doesn't anticipate this scenario unfolding.

"Concerning Frenkie, we're engaged in discussions," he shared with Lance!. "I believe we'll come to terms.

"He's a crucial player for our team. I believe he's content at Barcelona. We're satisfied with his contributions as well. Therefore, I don't anticipate any complications."

Regarding Lewandowski, Deco shows no anxiety about the circumstances, fully understanding that the Polish forward's approaching 39th birthday requires a modified negotiation strategy.

"I believe these are distinct circumstances," he clarified. "I think Robert has been valuable and continues to be valuable to us.

"I also believe that, considering his age and professional journey, he'll approach things season by season. I think there reaches a stage in one's career where long-term planning becomes less common. I think he's concentrated on this season. We are as well, and we'll observe.

"As I mentioned, he's a player whose situation depends significantly on his motivation, his physical condition, his perspective on things. And we'll monitor his development throughout the season. Then we'll have those conversations."
