A Ferran Torres double powered Barcelona to a 4–1 victory over Espanyol in the Catalan derby on Saturday at Camp Nou.
Barcelona were utterly dominant in the opening half as Hansi Flick's men thoroughly outclassed their crosstown rivals. Ferran broke the deadlock with a headed effort from a corner before adding his second by neatly redirecting a stunning trivela delivery from Lamine Yamal, giving Barça a two-goal cushion heading into the interval.
Espanyol refused to fold, however, as Pol Lozano fired the visitors back into contention. Barça endured some anxious moments until Yamal restored the two-goal buffer late on, before Marcus Rashford put the icing on the cake with a superb volley.
The win moves Barcelona nine points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga with just seven matches to play, putting them on the verge of back-to-back league championships.
That said, a significantly improved display will be required if Barça are to overturn a two-goal deficit away at Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal second leg on Tuesday.
The One Thing We Can't Ignore

It wasn't entirely smooth sailing for Barcelona despite their commanding Catalan derby triumph. Gerard Martín failed to emerge for the second half after picking up what appeared to be an injury, raising serious concerns ahead of the second leg against Atlético Madrid.
The versatile center back has been a reliable presence throughout the campaign in the heart of the backline, and his consistency has proven invaluable to Flick. However, the young defender appeared to go down awkwardly late in the first half and required medical attention after a non-contact incident.
Martín managed to see out the final five minutes of the first half—though visibly hobbling—but was replaced by Marc Casadó after the interval, throwing his availability for Tuesday's Champions League encounter into serious doubt.
Pau Cubarsí is ruled out of the second leg following his red card on Wednesday. Should Martín be unable to feature, Flick will find himself desperately thin on defensive cover for the crucial tie. Eric García and Ronald Araújo would likely form the center back pairing at the Metropolitano—a combination that has started together in central defense just once since the beginning of 2026.
Barcelona were already facing an uphill battle to avoid yet another early Champions League exit, but having to field a heavily improvised center back partnership in the second leg would make the task considerably more daunting.
All attention will be focused on Martín's fitness in the hours and days ahead.
Barcelona Player Ratings vs. Espanyol (4-2-3-1)

*Ratings provided by FotMob*
GK: Joan García—6.9: Had no chance of keeping out Lozano's effort. Composed, brave and precise with his distribution throughout.
RB: Ronald Araújo—7.6: Dependable at the back from the Uruguayan, though his limited attacking involvement left Yamal isolated, compelling the youngster to drop deeper to find space on the ball.
CB: Pau Cubarsí—7.1: Another unconvincing afternoon for the teenager, who again struggled to inspire confidence and was repeatedly exposed in behind.
CB: Gerard Martín—6.9: Had been largely untested throughout the match before sustaining an apparent injury that forced him off at the break, sparking genuine concern over his fitness for the second leg against Atlético Madrid.
LB: Alejandro Balde—6.5: Showed signs of rustiness on his first start since February, particularly going forward, where his deliveries were frequently below par.
DM: Eric García—7.5: An unassuming afternoon for García, who held Barcelona's midfield together and gave the players in front of him the freedom to interchange and move fluidly while he provided stability.
DM: Pedri—8.0: Gave the ball away on routine passes and lost his first touch on several occasions. An inconsistent showing from Pedri, though he did find his rhythm in the second half.
RW: Lamine Yamal—9.3: Yamal is currently in sensational form. Even without being heavily involved—largely due to Araújo's positioning—he still contributed two assists and netted the decisive goal.
AM: Fermín López—7.8: Glided between the lines with excellent quality and composure. He provided a creative spark in attack but was occasionally too eager to shoot.
LW: Gavi—7.3: Making his first start of the season, Gavi's tenacity was evident throughout, even if his decision-making in the final third was sometimes lacking. Nevertheless, in Raphinha's absence, he took responsibility for driving Barça's high press and won back possession on multiple occasions.
ST: Ferran Torres—9.1: Netted a superb brace to emphatically snap a miserable run of form and was excellent throughout in his link-up play with teammates. A confident and encouraging display from the Spaniard.
SUB: Marc Casadó (46' for Martín)—6.4: Unable to replicate the midfield balance García had provided in the first half, which played a part in Espanyol's improved showing after the break.
SUB: João Cancelo (64' for Balde)—7.0: Almost scored a stunning solo effort moments after coming on and was solid defensively aside from one costly turnover.
SUB: Marcus Rashford (64' for Gavi)—7.3: Squandered a clear opportunity due to his indecisiveness but made amends with a wonderful volley later on.
