Barcelona wasted no time seizing the chance to mock fierce rivals Real Madrid following explosive reports of a training ground altercation between Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde.
The alleged clash between Tchouaméni and Valverde sent shockwaves across social media on Thursday, prompting Real Madrid to issue an official statement acknowledging the incident and revealing that the Uruguayan had been taken to hospital for treatment on a head wound.
Valverde subsequently released a personal statement expressing regret over the confrontation, though he denied that any punches were exchanged. He maintained instead that he sustained a "minor cut" after striking his head against a table.
Madrid launched internal disciplinary proceedings against both players and levied a fine of €500,000 ($588,500) on each of them.
The altercation appeared to be the boiling point of months of simmering tension in the dressing room, with the squad divided between those who backed dismissed former head coach Xabi Alonso and those who opposed him.
Separately, Álvaro Carreras corroborated reports from earlier in the week that he had been involved in a different training ground incident, in which Antonio Rüdiger is alleged to have struck the left back.
