Barcelona Get Major Camp Nou Comeback Boost as City Council Delivers Game-Changing News
Positive developments have been scarce for Barcelona regarding their efforts to return to Camp Nou, yet the club maintains optimism about being back for their opening 2025–26 La Liga home fixture.
Barcelona gained momentum after the City Council approved a revised permit allowing the stadium to reopen with a limited capacity of approximately 30,000 supporters. Initially, Barcelona had requested authorization to return to Camp Nou with 60,000 seats available, but construction setbacks rendered that proposal impractical.
Under the revised permit, all building work will concentrate on preparing the Gol Sud and the Tribuna—the ground level of the primary stand behind the dugouts and the southern section of the field—to welcome spectators for the 2025–26 season kickoff. The strategy involves a phased reopening of different stadium sections.
While this development brings welcome encouragement, time remains critical to enable Barcelona's return to Camp Nou for their home season debut against Valencia on September 14. The club's opening three La Liga fixtures are scheduled away to provide additional preparation time.
Mundo Deportivo indicates that work on the mentioned sections must conclude within the coming fortnight to submit the "Certificado Final de Obra" (documentation confirming all required construction is complete) to Barcelona's City Council.
Following this submission, the City Council, La Liga and UEFA will receive notification of Barcelona's intention to stage their 2025–26 home matches at Camp Nou, with mandatory stadium inspections to follow.
Regional publication Diario ARA suggests that Barcelona City Council officials strongly believe Barça has already concluded their final game at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys—their interim venue for the previous two campaigns.
Barcelona has not made any formal announcements, but the club's primary objective remains having Camp Nou prepared for hosting during the second September weekend.
