Barcelona Leave Man Utd Loanee Marcus Rashford Blindsided With Shocking New Plan

Barcelona are said to be considering a second loan arrangement for Marcus Rashford, though the player is reportedly unaware of this plan, which could prove problematic for Manchester United.

Rashford has impressed during his debut season away from English football, contributing 13 goals and 13 assists across 23 starts in all competitions. Nevertheless, his inability to fully establish himself as Barcelona's undisputed first-choice left winger—no simple feat with Ballon d'Or hopeful Raphinha as his direct rival—has apparently led the Catalan club to explore other options.

The loan agreement reached with United last summer included an accessible $35.1 million (£26 million, €30 million) purchase clause, yet Barcelona appear reluctant to commit to that fee. Sky Sports News reports that the La Liga leaders are "interested" in keeping Rashford for at least another season through a follow-up loan arrangement.

Any talks would likely begin once the current season ends and Rashford officially returns to Manchester United. The Red Devils have already dismissed the idea of lowering the release clause but are eager to move the England international on as quickly as possible, given his wages are expected to surge should Champions League qualification be secured.

Would Man Utd Accept Second Marcus Rashford Loan?

Barcelona's approach makes perfect sense from a Catalan perspective—Rashford stays without the burden of a $35 million outlay—but it is far less appealing from United's standpoint.

Delaying a permanent transfer by another year risks Rashford's market value declining further. The adaptable winger is currently at his peak at 28, with two years remaining on his contract, and a strong World Cup campaign with England could push his asking price even higher.

A second loan deal would offer no assurance that Rashford would sign permanently with Barcelona the following summer. Should the financially stretched Catalans get cold feet once more, United could find themselves with a 29-year-old forward entering the final year of his deal.

United's position is believed to be straightforward: either Barcelona activate Rashford's release clause in full, or he comes back to Old Trafford. The most likely outcome in the latter scenario would be a permanent move elsewhere for Rashford—with no shortage of clubs expected to be interested in acquiring the gifted attacker.

That said, Michael Carrick has also left the door open to giving the club's homegrown talent another opportunity. Rashford only pursued his European adventure after a high-profile falling out with Ruben Amorim, who has since departed the club. Carrick has publicly expressed a desire for a new left winger this summer, and Rashford would represent a cost-effective solution.

How Rashford himself feels about a second loan remains uncertain. The proud Mancunian has made no secret of his desire to remain at Barcelona, but MARCA reports that the player was not consulted by the club regarding this proposal.
