Barcelona have the opportunity to make history by equaling a 58-year-old La Liga record currently held by Real Madrid when they take to the pitch in their next domestic fixture this Saturday.
La Blaugrana have gotten off to a truly remarkable start to the campaign, having won all nine of their competitive games. Eight of those victories have come in La Liga, with a 5–1 thrashing of Feyenoord in the Champions League slotted between a series of highly dominant performances.
The Catalans tied their own club record for the most consecutive wins at the start of a La Liga season by defeating Getafe 3–0 last weekend, with their eighth straight victory matching the achievement from the opening of the 2013–14 campaign under Tata Martino—though it was ultimately Atlético Madrid who claimed the title that year.
However, if Barça can secure a victory over Real Betis away from home in their next league encounter on Oct. 17, they will become just the second club to win their opening nine La Liga matches in a single season.
Real Madrid remain the only side to have previously accomplished this feat, achieving it back in the 1968–69 season. Their ninth triumph came in El Clásico before a scoreless draw with Pontevedra brought their winning run to an end.
Los Blancos went on to lift the title that season, coming remarkably close to going the entire campaign undefeated. Only Elche managed to defeat them on their way to the championship.
Barça, who currently sit five points clear at the top of the table, will have their sights set on the all-time record should they beat Betis, and, in a fitting twist, they could extend their run to 10 consecutive La Liga wins against Real Madrid when the two sides clash on Oct. 25.
How Have Barcelona Fared Against Real Betis Recently?

Before any thoughts of a record-breaking result in El Clásico, Barça must first get past Betis at the Estadio La Cartuja—and former Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini has his side in excellent shape.
Currently sitting third in the table and just five points behind Barça, the Andalusian outfit have picked up six wins from their opening eight league games, along with a victory over Lille on their long-awaited return to the Champions League last month.
Getting a result in Seville won't be easy for Flick and his squad, particularly as they must first navigate a tricky away trip to Galatasaray this Tuesday.
Nevertheless, Barça can draw confidence from their outstanding record against Betis in recent history. They have won 14 of their last 17 encounters across all competitions, including both meetings last season—among them a wild 5–3 victory on the road.
Their record at La Cartuja is equally strong, with a 2–2 draw at the ground in 2024–25 being the only time they have failed to claim all three points there across their last 10 visits.
Given the form Barça are currently in, even a buoyant Betis side may struggle to stand in the way of history.
