Barcelona President Breaks Silence on Lionel Messi's Shocking Comeback Possibility

Barcelona's president Joan Laporta has downplayed the possibility of securing Inter Miami star Lionel Messi's return to the Catalan club before his retirement.

Recent discussions about a potential short-term European loan prior to next summer's World Cup have emerged, with Barcelona naturally mentioned as possible destinations. This speculation intensified following Messi's unexpected appearance at Camp Nou over the weekend.

After Messi stated his desire to bid farewell to supporters "not merely as a footballer," talk of a potential comeback has accelerated dramatically. The situation escalated further when the Argentine revealed his aspirations to return to Barcelona city with his family.

Numerous Barcelona supporters are now urging Laporta to orchestrate a reunion with Messi, providing him the opportunity to perform at the renovated Camp Nou. This question was directly posed to the club president during his recent Catalunya Ràdio interview.

"With complete respect for Messi, our club professionals, Barça, and our members, I believe engaging in unrealistic speculation at this time would be inappropriate and unfair," he replied.

Messi's exit from Barcelona during summer 2021 continues to pain many supporters, who had to witness their club legend's departure due to the team's dire financial circumstances preventing contract renewal.

The bond between Messi and Laporta is believed to be strained following his departure, yet the president maintained he would repeat the same choice to safeguard the institution.

"I harbor no regrets," Laporta stated. "Barça transcends everything."

Laporta joined others at Barcelona who were completely surprised by Messi's unannounced Camp Nou visit, which was reportedly coordinated through Limak, the construction firm overseeing the stadium's renovation.

When asked about Messi's visit, Laporta remarked: "I welcomed him warmly. It was an impromptu gesture demonstrating his affection for Barcelona.

"I had no prior knowledge, but this remains his home. He was with companions, taking a stroll after dinner, and spontaneously decided to visit. I sent no invitations. We maintain a positive relationship. He's currently with Inter Miami. He understands he's cherished and appreciated for his contributions and will always be welcome.

"It's fitting that he receives the world's greatest tribute. Having his ceremony here, before 105,000 supporters, would be magnificent."
