Barcelona President Buzzing With Anticipation As Blockbuster Signing Edges Closer

"Deco managed the transfer brilliantly," stated Barcelona president Joan Laporta as he confirmed the club's forthcoming acquisition of Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi.

Barcelona acted with remarkable speed in their pursuit of Adeyemi, with reports of their interest swiftly followed by news of a deal worth an initial $25.1 million (€22 million) plus up to $8 million (€7 million) in additional bonuses.

"We are really thrilled about Adeyemi," Laporta continued. "We've had our eye on him for some time. He's a threat and has tremendous pace."

Adeyemi is poised to become Barcelona's second attacking addition this summer, following the high-profile signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, and he may not be the final one as the La Liga title holders continue their pursuit of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Alvarez.

Laporta: Barcelona's Alvarez Offer Not Unlimited

Julián Alvarez

This summer has already produced a number of major transfer sagas, with Alvarez being the standout storyline so far. Barcelona had an offer of $114 million (€100 million) rejected, while Real Madrid also failed to reach an agreement at $171 million (€150 million).

Real Madrid's interest in Alvarez seemed to dissipate as quickly as it emerged, but Barcelona remain determined and Laporta confirmed their bid is still on the table should Atlético choose to sell a player who has already publicly expressed his wish to depart.

"When it comes to signing Julián, we're certainly not going to let anyone dictate terms to us," Laporta declared. "We'll be the ones setting the agenda.

"We've submitted an offer that has its limits, and we'll make clear in due course how long that offer will remain on the table. The offer was put forward with the genuine intention of signing the player that both the sporting director and the coach want. I believe he's an exceptional talent; we're standing by a considerable offer, but it does have a ceiling.

"I think Julián is a truly outstanding player, and we're keeping our offer in place despite it being a very significant amount, but it won't remain open indefinitely.

"I was in conversation with Miguel Ángel Gil [Atlético CEO], as usual, we spoke openly and cordially, and I believe we share a very strong relationship with them. There was some early misunderstanding around the offer we submitted, which I was able to clear up. I understand that; we haven't pushed them any further.

"I simply let them know that once they have another option lined up, this offer is still valid, and things haven't moved beyond that stage."
