Barcelona Ready to Unleash Overlooked La Masia Star with Ligue 1 Loan Move

Following extensive discussions, Barcelona and AS Monaco have finalized a deal that will bring former La Masia talent Ansu Fati to the French Ligue 1 club.
Fabrizio Romano has verified that the 22-year-old forward will move to Monaco through a loan arrangement that includes a purchase option for the club. Fati is set to pen a fresh contract with Barcelona before heading to Monaco tomorrow for his medical examination with the new team.
According to Spain's Cadena SER, Monaco's clause to secure the transfer permanently during the upcoming summer window is valued at approximately €11 million ($12.7 million).
Having emerged as a Barcelona prospect during his teenage years, Fati demonstrated remarkable potential, earning him the privilege of wearing Lionel Messi's iconic No. 10 jersey following the Argentine superstar's exit from the Catalan outfit. However, early-decade injuries significantly impacted Fati's trajectory, and he has struggled to recapture his previous form.
During the previous campaign, following his loan spell with Brighton in the Premier League, Fati found it challenging to secure regular minutes under Hansi Flick's management, managing zero goals across his 11 appearances throughout the 2024–25 season.
Fati has accumulated merely 135 minutes of playing time across all tournaments in 2025, and following the season's conclusion, his jersey number was reassigned to another La Masia prospect, Lamine Yamal.
This arrangement benefits everyone involved. Fati receives an opportunity for regular playing time to attempt a career resurgence. Monaco acquires a young talent at a reasonable cost who has previously demonstrated genuine ability.
Additionally, Barcelona reduces the majority of the wages for their third-highest paid player, as they seek to accumulate resources to potentially activate Nico Williams's buyout clause.
