Barcelona Receives Game-Changing Financial Lifeline to Unlock Player Registrations
Barcelona have reportedly installed 475 VIP seats at the Estadi Johan Cruyff as part of their strategy to generate additional revenue and facilitate the registration of their new acquisitions.
Time is running out for the Catalan club to comply with La Liga's 1:1 financial regulations ahead of the 2025–26 campaign. Joan García, Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji face the possibility of being unavailable for Barcelona's Spanish championship defense opener if their registrations aren't completed before Hansi Flick's squad faces Mallorca this weekend.
The Spanish powerhouse has focused on generating revenue this summer to prevent the financial complications that left Dani Olmo unable to feature immediately after joining the Catalonian side last season. The club parted ways with Pau Víctor, Álex Valle and Pablo Torre, collecting €23 million ($26.7 million) in total.
Barcelona also secured a collaboration with the Democratic Republic of Congo's government valued at approximately €10 million ($11.5 million) annually.
However, the Catalans remain outside La Liga's 1:1 financial framework, necessitating this latest revenue-generating measure. Mundo Deportivo indicates that nearly 500 "personalized" VIP seats have been introduced at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
These developments follow the club's previous sale of VIP seating at the renovated Camp Nou, which continues to face construction delays and complications in recent months.
Barcelona requires the €100 million ($116.1 million) investment from the Estadi Johan Cruyff to be verified through a financial audit and subsequently approved by La Liga. However, a recent postponement in Crowe Spain's assessment has left Barcelona awaiting an updated decision.
The Spanish club's objective remains registering their three new additions, along with Wojciech Szczęsny, Gerard Martín, Héctor Fort and Marc Bernal, before traveling to Mallorca's Son Moix Stadium.
Barcelona encountered comparable registration and financial challenges last season, though this didn't prevent Flick's team from securing a domestic treble. Nevertheless, the German manager will be anxious to have his complete roster available by Saturday, Aug. 16, rather than experiencing a repeat of last season's prolonged registration difficulties.
