Barcelona Seize 29th La Liga Crown with Stunning El Clasico Masterclass

Barcelona left no room for doubt, delivering exactly what was required to clinch this season's La Liga title—at the Camp Nou against Real Madrid in El Clásico.

Hansi Flick's defending champions needed just a single point from the Catalonia showdown on Sunday and stormed to a 2–0 advantage via strikes from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres within the opening 18 minutes.

The 14-point gap established by the final scoreline is insurmountable with only three games remaining.

In reality, this outcome was perhaps predictable given Real Madrid's dramatic collapse in recent days. Even a victory for Los Blancos would have merely postponed the inevitable by a matter of days. Nevertheless, the fact that the title-clinching points arrived against their greatest rivals makes the triumph all the more satisfying for Barcelona.

For Hansi Flick, this represents back-to-back league titles in his two seasons at the Barça helm. This triumph marks the first time the club has successfully defended the Spanish title since their consecutive championships in 2017–18 and 2018–19. No side other than Barcelona has retained the Spanish crown since Real Madrid accomplished the feat 17 years ago.

With their 29th title secured, the Catalans continue to close the gap on Real Madrid's national record—the capital club still leads the all-time standings with 36 championships.

What makes this sustained period of La Liga supremacy particularly remarkable is that it has been achieved while the club has endured severe financial difficulties.

As a result of severe prior mismanagement, Barcelona have been forced to operate on a shoestring budget just to field a competitive side in recent campaigns. However, a major bright spot has been the resurgence of La Masia graduates feeding into the first team. As many as 10 of the 23-man squad emerged from the academy system—including Dani Olmo and Eric García, who had stints away before returning as senior players. That figure doesn't even factor in Pedri joining at 17 or Ronald Araújo signing for Barcelona B at 19.

Champions League Still Eludes Barcelona

Flick's next ambition—in what is the final year of his current deal—will be to secure a third consecutive title in 2026–27. That would put him level with Camp Nou icon Pep Guardiola, who guided the club to three straight La Liga crowns in his first three seasons managing the senior side—2008–09, 2009–10, and 2010–11.

Where Guardiola holds a commanding advantage is in Champions League glory. The Barcelona-born coach claimed the European crown in two of those three campaigns, translating domestic dominance onto the continental stage, and the Blaugrana have lifted the Champions League trophy just once since (2014–15).

Flick guided Barça to the semifinals last season before falling to Inter across two legs, but exited a round earlier this campaign when his side was eliminated by Atlético Madrid in the quarterfinals.
