Barcelona's pursuit of a sixth Champions League title continues with a clash against old adversary Atlético Madrid in the quarterfinal first leg at Camp Nou.
Hansi Flick's squad has consistently performed well against Atlético since his arrival, most recently edging Diego Simeone's team 2–1 to establish a seven-point lead at the top of La Liga.
However, two-legged ties tell a very different tale, as Barça discovered when Atléti knocked them out of the Copa del Rey semifinals, eliminating the Catalans 4–3 on aggregate. The experience gained from that encounter could prove decisive this time around, and Flick's players will be acutely aware of how critical securing a strong first-leg lead can be.
After comprehensively dismantling Newcastle United in the round of 16, Barcelona are expected to reach back-to-back Champions League semifinals for the first time this decade and avoid another early exit against a side that has ended Barça's European ambitions twice in the past 12 years.
Injuries Compromise Blaugrana Midfield

Frenkie de Jong remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Marc Bernal, who stepped into the starting XI for much of the past month, picked up an ankle strain on Saturday. The Spaniard is now also ruled out for Atléti's Wednesday visit, leaving Flick to think outside the box with his midfield options.
Raphinha's continued absence remains a significant setback for Barcelona's attack, though Marcus Rashford has stepped up admirably in the Brazilian's place and is set to start on the left wing once again.
Ronald Araújo came off Saturday's match with some discomfort but is expected to be fit for Wednesday. Meanwhile, Barcelona's defensive unit will be strengthened by Jules Koundé's return, with the Frenchman set to make his first start since March 3.
Alejandro Balde may also feature in the first leg, though it's probably too early for him to displace the in-form João Cancelo from the starting lineup.
Barcelona Predicted Lineup vs. Atlético Madrid (4-2-3-1)

GK: Joan García—No goalkeeper in La Liga has recorded more clean sheets this season than García, who boasts 12. The Spaniard now sets his sights on claiming his first shutout in the Champions League.
RB: Jules Koundé—Koundé's comeback is a welcome boost for the Catalans and particularly for Lamine Yamal, with whom he has developed an outstanding partnership. That said, the right back will need to be at his sharpest to contain the dangerous Ademola Lookman.
CB: Pau Cubarsí—Cubarsí has delivered two of his finest performances this season in the last two meetings with Atlético. A third commanding display in a row could be instrumental in securing Barça's progress.
CB: Gerard Martín—Fortunate to escape a red card on Saturday, drawing frustration from Atléti. That incident is likely to add further edge to what was already shaping up to be a fiercely contested match.
LB: João Cancelo—The standout performer from Saturday's win will once again cover the left flank, with the freedom to push forward and maintain his impressive attacking contributions. He will need to remain vigilant against Giuliano Simeone and Antoine Griezmann, who have exploited the space left behind during transitions.
DM: Eric García—García will fill in for the absent De Jong and Bernal, providing balance in Barça's midfield and giving Pedri the freedom to influence play. He could also slot in at right back if Koundé isn't ready to start, or at center back in place of Martín, opening the door for Dani Olmo to enter the XI.
DM: Pedri—The creative heartbeat of Barcelona's game will look to exploit Atléti's midfield without Pablo Barrios. He'll be responsible for orchestrating Barcelona's play both from deeper positions and as they establish a foothold in Atléti's half.
RW: Lamine Yamal—The teenage sensation left the Metropolitano on Saturday feeling frustrated after a brilliant but fruitless outing. Facing a side he has tormented before, Yamal will be especially driven to leave his mark in the first leg.
AM: Fermín López—One of the most dynamic attacking midfielders in Europe this season retains his spot in the XI, eager to energetically move between the lines and break down a disciplined visiting low-block.
LW: Marcus Rashford—The loanee finds himself in a pivotal run of games that could shape his future based on his showings. He was instrumental in Barça's win on Saturday, but making a meaningful impact in the Champions League would be an even greater statement.
ST: Robert Lewandowski—Olmo started as a false nine on Saturday, but it was Lewandowski who grabbed the late winner—fortune or not. The seasoned striker may be approaching the final chapters of his Champions League career, yet the competition's third-highest scorer all-time will be hungry to add to his tally with a defining performance on Wednesday.
